They needed to get a rim protector. They needed that from the very beginning, which makes me really disappointed in this trade. But Shumpert was a huge add because you need somebody who can play wing D to take away Lebron's minutes (the main reason I still think it was stupid to trade away Wiggins).
Why would the chiefs need a rim protector?

Dirk moves up the all time scorer list with the three in OT. Mavs are on fire right now!

For a protected 1st and Lance Thomas I'll take a flyer on Waiters. Gives the Thunder a lot of flexibility to make more moves as well. If he buys in he could be good. If not, oh ****ing well.

Anyone with a passing interest in basketball would do well to turn on NBATV and watch Thunder vs. Warriors. Most entertaining matchup in the NBA right now IMO.

Not that this is anything new, but Golden State is coached so much better than OKC.

Steve Kerr is a smart, smart, smart man

could end up being a HOF coach in GS

...might've ended up in a bath tub with his wrists slit in NY

too far?

Kerr is too smart to have seriously considered New York. He had to feign interest out of respect to Phil.

David Lee's injury was big, as it allowed for a more graceful transition to Draymond. Draymond's improvement on both ends is monumental for them. Toughness on D and incredible versatility on offense. Where Kerr has hit the jackpot personnel wise is turning Barnes into a legitimately good NBA player and convincing Iggy to come off the bench.

I mean, I guess if OKC can thrive with Harden, they can thrive with Waiters. As long as Waiters doesn't bitch about his role as a 6th man (which he will).

Waiters can't and shouldn't be on the floor at the same time as Durant/Westbrook. He is terrible shooting pick and pop so the only thing he can do for you is create his own shots off the dribble, which means the only way he can score is to keep the ball away from those 2 guys. If you can give him some floor time where he can ballhog away... he's nowhere near as good as Harden, but for $5M, he can do some damage for the team.

Waiters' BBIQ, court vision, and overall talent level is nowhere near James Harden's. I can see him doing more damage than good for OKC (as he'll end up taking the ball away from Durant/Westbrook, two top 10 NBA players, which they can't afford). Puzzling trade on their part.
