Chiefs Mike Catapano Now Starting For The Jets

Yesterday Jets coach Todd Bowles was asked if cutting Quinton Coples was because of an incident on the team's airplane ride last sunday in Houston as was reported by NY Jets beat writer Rich Cimini. Bowles denied it and said letting Coples go was simply a football decision to make the team faster on outside pass rushing. Coples was replaced by promoting practice squad player (and former Chief) Mike Catapano to the active roster and starting him opposite rookie Lorenzo Mauldin on passing downs in the nickel package with Wilkerson and Richardson on the inside against Miami yesterday.

Rookie Leonard Williams was delegated strictly to run down situations and saw his snap count drop to 35 snaps, as compared to Mauldin's 38 snaps and Catapano's 41 snaps. This formula seemed to work well for the Jets who pressured Tannehill all game long. While Catapano did not record a sack he looked sharp and pressured Tannehill all afternoon helping contribute to the other 3 nickel package guys each recording a sack in Sunday's victory and dominate on 3rd downs. The Jets also allowed just 12 yards rushing to the Dolphins. The Jets, along with the Chiefs and Texans are the front runners in the race to claim the 2 wild card spots in the AFC playoffs.

Below is a copy of a youtube link showing Catapano blowing by Miami's (and former Chief's) left tackle Brandon Albert to pressure Tannehill into throwing the ball away during the yesterday's game. The Chiefs have the easiest schedule in the NFL over the last 5 weeks of the season...but the Jets and the Texans as of now are the team's who pose the biggest threat to snag another spot.

Is there a scenario the Chiefs and Jets could meet in the playoffs if both are wild card teams?

Yes it looked like he blew by Albert to me....it didn't to you?

Well I do happen to like Catapano and think he will be a great player...would like to see him succeed here with us. But then again its tough to use him as an edge rusher in place of Houston and Hali so was a bad situational fit I guess.

Christ, I had him as my "Adopt a Chief" for three straight years and he finally has his first highlight with the Jets as they mentioned his name! We need to bring him back!

see...you think things are going well now...but keep in mind this is KC and we know what happens come playoff time. Murphy's law shouldn't be completely ignored.
