***The Official 2014 Gardening Thread***

So what is everyone planting this year? Trying anything new or different? I've already got potatoes in the ground and I'm trying an herb garden this year. I've started cilantro, oregano, and basil in planter pots from seed and will transfer to a 55 gallon drum cut in half length wise and laid on its side with drain holes.

Overall I'm going with tomatoes, green beans, peppers(jalapeño/bell), broccoli, lettuce, and the aforementioned potatoes.

Yeah, prills are little balls. If it's not melted into a big block or something dumb, should be good.

Buehler, as mentioned before, I love baby corn. We make 1-2 asian dishes a week and love them. Too expensive to always use though.

Figure out how to get me a years supply of canned baby corn from you.

Thanks

If your shit is top notch, and believe me I am not questioning that, I may consider paying a higher price. That's right, I am going opposite of Guru on this one if the product is the best. I won't settle for cheaper.

Looks like you can use field corn. I tell you what, I'll give you guys a heads up when it's about to tassel, and you guys can take what you want. As long as you buy me beer.

I told you this the other day. I read that you simply pick it when it's really immature and you have baby corn. I see now from your teachings how this can be pretty wasteful. That article also describes how it must be picked by hand which is why the cost is so high.

I like the idea in the article to let the first ears go to maturity and harvesting the second ears for baby corn. I might try that on my limited crop here. LOL

I've shipped beer to another CP'er before. FYI.

I like sweet corn entirely too much to use any of it for baby corn. (If it's a good variety)

You're welcome to come out and get some, but let's be clear here, I am NOT picking it. There has to be a damn fine reason for me to go into a corn field at pollination.

Looks like Thursday Ill get the garden all tilled and even throw up raised beds. Hope it stays dry till then. Would be a great start to the gardening year. I may go find onion plants and get them in the ground as well. Good time to try planting peas, maybe cabbage, and lettuce as well.

Yeah, that's 21-7-14 fertilizer. The 21-7-14 refers to the percentages of nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium.

It's definitely usable for lawn, but if I was growing anything to eat I probably wouldn't use it.

If you do use it, make sure to water it in to prevent burning.
