A little switchup here as we get some of our American non-state areas. Five houses, you pick one.

US Virgin Islands and its not close.

You couldn't pay me enough to list in Puerto Rico. There is a reason why there is an abandoned mansion.

My rankings:

Christiansted, US Virgin Islands - Okay, let's do this. Get me a broker. It's not near anything as far as I can tell, but I can deal with it. I've never been to the USVI, so will I need guards or anything?

DC, Downtown - This is an AWESOME location. You could go jogging on the Mall, walk to some of the greatest museums on the planet, and there are restaurants so close that you can smell them. The condo is very nice, even if a bit conservative for my tastes, and the building is really cool. It's not huge at 1,700 square feet, but it's big enough. If it was a little bigger it would beat the USVI.

Barrigada, Guam - I would be interested in Guam. It sounds really cool. The house is pretty nice, too. I can't quite tell where the house it, but it doesn't seem like it's got any type of ocean view, and it's not really near restaurants. But I'm not sure. I could live here, but it's not my top choice.

San Juan, Puerto Rico - It's definitely a fixer upper, and the jungle is reclaiming the yard and water features. But it's a nice house and that staircase is great. It was hard to find on the map, but it's close to the Montehiedra outlet mall, so you can kind of walk to a Chili's and McDonalds and other chains. My challenge with it is that I'm not good at house repairs and it might need some.

DC, Georgetown - I've heard that Georgetown is the place to live in DC, and the location seems good. It's near some good running trails on the Potomac and some big park. But I can't live in 1,000 square feet with my wife. It's too small.

It seems like we're centralizing around the USVI house.

If I were an aspiring drug lord, I would totally buy the place in Puerto Rico and make that my base of operations. Of course, I'd probably need another 1-2 million just to clean the place up and make it respectable for a new drug lord on the scene, though.

US Virgin Islands, all day every day.

The Guam property is right at the end of the runway to the airport! HORRIFIC LOCATION!!!

Christiansted is easily the runaway winner. Not sure why but I envision that home in a James Bond movie with Sean Connery walking up and a scantily clad woman in the pool then he runs into a villain.

Puerto Rico is full of Puerto Ricans! NO WAY-crime is rampant and it's turned into an island version of Venezeula

No way on either of the DC properties as I already live here in the area and I HATE DC: parking sucks balls, traffic getting around horrific, red light and speed cameras everywhere, streets hard to navigate and lots of dumb rules. I still get lost and have a hard time navigating through DC after 10 years.

I was really close on picking the downtown DC location. I think you wouldn't need a car (if you could get groceries), and it would be a great place in terms of culture. You could spend every weekend going to the museums and really studying and understanding the exhibits. The USVI house and views are just superb, but it can't compete with having the Smithsonian and the Air and Space Museum in your back yard.

That's the main reason lots of yuppies move into the city. You have either black residents in older poorer neighborhoods, yuppies flipping or moving into newer or re-gentrified areas and then the older people with real money who live in places like Georgetown.

Actually the best Air and Space Museum is not in DC but out next to my office and at the southern end of Dulles Airport called the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center.

Inside is the ACTUAL Enola Gay that dropped the atomic bomb over Nakasaki, Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird, a Concorde, and the Space Shuttle Discovery just to name a few.

It is AWESOME

Dang. Next time I'm in DC I'm definitely going there. I wasn't even aware that place existed. Thanks for the scoop!
