Hypothetical: which ship would you want to be a guest on?

Unfortunately, it has been discovered that the Social Security Trust Fund contained a typo, and it's completely out of money. Your retirement plan is gone.

The federal government feels bad about this, so they offer you a trip to the past on their top-secret time machine as a way of apologizing.

The only way time travel works, though, is to blip into the past aboard a ship. It has to be a named ship (i.e., famous ship or documented ship), because the time travel technicians have to know the exact location of the ship at a point in history in order to transport you there.

You'll get sent back with a top-secret earpiece that instantly translates any language. Any people will instantly believe your identity as a crew member, passenger, or whatever else you want. You may eat what they eat if you like, but a nice meal and unlimited beverage(s) per day will be blipped to you from the present time period any time at your request (for your use only).

You will have no ability to change history, though you can walk anywhere on the ship, participate in conversations, and whatever else you like. You may pick the time period of your stay (start and finish), and also have a "return home" device that, when activated, will instantly remove you from the ship and bring you back to the present day and age.

Which ship do you choose? A poll will arrive as soon as I lift anchor.

It's the Missouri and it's not close.

End of WWII happened on her decks. Tomahawks to start the Gulf War. Under Siege was set on it. The only blemish is that goddamned Cher video.

Yup. I've been on aircraft carriers but have never seen a battleship in person.

Although my first choice would have been the Hornet when it launched Doolittle's raid.

Captain James Cook's Resolution.

Before the ill-fated pit stop in Hawaii.

Kevin, your poll creativeness is amazing. Is it via mushrooms, LSD, or ??? that enables to you to come up with them?

"Never mind the maneuvers, just go straight at them." Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson

That was the killer ship back in the day, when an enemy seen that ship coming at you I would advise getting out all your sails and flee.

Hard to select just one ship but I would like to have Nelson walk me about this one and tell me about her as well as his knowledge of changing the way things were done at sea back then. Smart Admiral he was.

I'm debating between these three.

1. CV-6 Enterprise. It arrived in Pearl Harbor on December 8th, and fought in the Battle of Midway. It took sailors on board when the Hornet was sunk, and at one point was the only functional aircraft carrier in the Pacific Theater. (In a great story of American spirit, the crew put up a banner that said, "Enterprise vs. Japan".) It saw action in the Solomons, Santa Cruz, the Carolines, the Philippines, Okinawa, and more. This ship was the place to be if you wanted to see the War in the Pacific unfold.

2. The Queen Mary. This may seem like an unusual choice, but this ship is historic. First off, all sorts of interesting people sailed on it. From Queen Elizabeth to Audrey Hepburn to Buster Keaton to Winston Churchill to Dwight Eisenhower, it was a celebrity cavalcade. Second, it would have been an interesting look at WWII without the carnage. It carried thousands of American troops east to Europe in the early days, and carried thousands back home after the war. Churchill even signed the D-Day orders aboard the ship.

3. Victoria. An around the world cruise would be cool any time, but imagine doing it in 1520. He sailed into Rio de Janeiro before there was a city there. He hit up South Pacific Islands, parts of Oceania, and even Africa on the way, and it would have been untouched by the west in most parts. How cool would that be?

Honorable Mention: Santa Maria, Susan Constant.

In the end, I think I would actually take the Queen Mary. It would be very comfortable, insulated from trauma, and it would give me a look at a lot of interesting parts of history, from WWII to show business, while mingling with world leaders.
