2013 NFL Sunday Ticket + Alternatives

I know we had this thread last year, but things change every year so I thought I'd post this.

I've been with DirecTV for about 6 years now for the Ticket, but I can't afford it anymore. So I thought I'd see what things we learn as we negotiate, work around the Ticket, and find ways to watch our Chiefs games out of market as affordable as possible.

I know there's a promotion with Madden 25. What else is there this year?

Alright called about cancelling (about 45 minutes of my time)

What I got:

$15 off a month (3 different discounts) for 6 months (1) and 12 months (2)

NFL Sunday ticket Max for half price ($160) broken into 4 payments.

I thought that wasn't bad. They also threw in Cinemax for 3 months since we had HBO.

i basically just called asking about how much my ETF would be and that I wasn't getting value out of my channels anymore. I was nice and waited for him to throw offers out there.

That's what I got originally. Call back in a week, say you need to cancel cuz you've had some difficulties financially. They'll give you a better deal.

Last year I threatened cancelation they gave me 20 off for a year and free HD for a year plus free ST.

The way I see it I'm doing the same thing. You throw new customers ST so if you want me to stay I'll get that or go to dish for a couple of years and get their low rate or just go without. I'm tired of $120 bills anyway.

DirecTV didn't even bat an eye when I asked to cancel the Ticket. They went over what I'd be losing and canceled it. No offers, nothing. **** 'em.

Yeah, this is why I have no problem at all with people doing this. This whole "new customers only" thing is a bunch of crap, they really should give everyone "most favored nation" status.

If this new customer deal wasn't available, then this tactic would look distastefully cheap, but as long as they are giving deals out to new customers, then grind it out of them every season.

No, you talk to them about canceling DTV all together. You call, talk about your options with other companies, and start asking about termination fees. Be calm and cool. Ask if you can cancel on a certain as opposed to that moment. Just act as if you are seriously considering dropping them all together. See what happens.

It really isn't that much when you break down the cost and inconvenience of going to a bar. Have never had a problem with full price for the use it gets.

The tack I took was the one I usually take, which has previously worked fine. And coincidentally, I did ask about my contract date and termination fees. Was very calm and friendly.

Truth is, because of some other shit going on right now, I wasn't taking ST anyway unless they gave it to me for free. Just surprised at the total lack of commitment to keeping a number.

It all depends on the CSR man. Last year I called in and the first CSR didn't give two shits that I wanted to cancel my service. Ended up playing the whole "can't hear you....you're breaking up" shit and then called back in and got someone else who gave it to me for free. It's all random.
