I don't know about that. Maybe a good LT vs a great safety. But an average LT still gets you in trouble more than you'd like.

Unless the safety starts taking the ball away from the offense more, hard to say great.

If I'm shelling out $12 million, it's not going to a safety.

I'd rather overpay a great player than overpay an average player, position be damned.

They're betting that Fisher becomes much more than an average player though so thats nice.

LOL so you disagree with your original assessment?

Fisher has gotten better the past two seasons. It may be a bit more than some wanted but the fact is it is a premium position, he is trending up not down, and the salary cap is getting so high that $12/mil for a competent LT is going to look like a steal in four years. If he regresses then it's a bad move, but you can say that about any player at any position at any time.

Reed will be a Hall of Famer, but even Reed isn't going to single handedly win games on defense if his offense sucks due to a Jordan Black sized hole at left tackle. That is exactly what the Chiefs would have if they would have signed Berry to this money and not Fisher.

Fair enough. Give me Reed, Ray Lewis, Terrell Suggs and the rest of that wrecking crew of a defense, and then we wouldn't have to sign Fisher to an extension.

I was just saying that Reed isn't the best example. If Berry has a Reed type year and can be that going forward, by all means, keep him.

But I'm skeptical.
