Big Green Egg

Been looking at these and may buy one this spring. I figure some of you grillmasters own one. Are they worth the $$$? What size do you recommend? I'm looking at the Large or XL. Anything you don't like about it? Do you have it in the nest, table, or some custom built island/kitchen thing?

How do they work as grills? Smokers?

Discuss. Any pics are welcome.

Congratulations you use a smoker for its intended purpose, but that wasn't what I asked.

I know a big retailer of the BGE in KC stopped carrying them because of issues and poor service. They now carry the Kamado line, which is basically the same thing and less expensive.

& likely just as solid - check their weights vs specs for comparable models - that'll give you your answer in all likeliness - I've seen the kamado in a tan color - very solid, and I'd imagine yep, just as good as BGE.

By the way - if you DO procure one of these models. Be sure to try prime rib in them. It's outstanding.

Or that a $100 grill can pretty much do everything a $1,300 grill can do?

Get a Weber Smoky Mountain. A LOT cheaper and will produce just as good results as a BGE.

I must be confused...the answer I gave was, or should have been...I have used a weber grill as a smoker for years with small loads of meat I also have a WSM 22.5 that I use when smoking large quantities of meat.

Sorry if i confused you with my first answer

I have the large. Love it. In my opinion it's worth the money.

Id bet if someone cannot master the $100 grill, the BGE won't put them on the Food Network as a star....

Here's a hint, if you don't want one, don't buy one, the OP seems to want to pick one up.

I've got both a weber and one of these. http://www.yodersmokers.com/ys640-pellet-grill.html

I use them for two totally different things.
