Take the crown take down
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Department of Homeland Security executed a cease-and-desist order and confiscated “Take the Crown” underwear Tuesday afternoon.
The garments were not licensed by Major League Baseball. Agents told the artist and the owner of the boutique in the Crossroads that the K and C were connected on the underwear which meant she couldn’t sell them. They also briefly handcuffed the man who printed the underwear. RELATED: Cracking down on counterfeit World Series tickets, apparel The owner thought it was a little unfair. http://www.kshb.com/news/local-news/...-mlb-certified “It’s a lot to co-own a small lingerie store and feel like a criminal for printing crowns and KC on blue, cotton, American-made underwear,” Birdie’s owner Peregrine Honig said. “It seems like a lot.” Whether it's official merchandise or official tickets, everyone is on the lookout. Police were also at The K investigating counterfeit tickets. |

I saw this story on the news this morning. I don't know about handcuffing anyone, but their crown with KC was pretty darn close to the trademarked Royals logo.
I remember being in The Peanut downtown in the days prior to the All Star game and MLB goons were going through the bar making them take down any signage that came close to the ASG logo that wasn't licensed. |

The department of homeland security, huh? Glad to see my tax dollars are making the U.S. more secure. I'm surprised we didn't go to DEFCON 3.

I just feel like there are any number of creative ways to express the love of all things Royals without copying the damn trademark.
I think you should get to own things like that.

Sadly, no. I don't really understand how they didn't start with a cease and desist. She'd have complied. Going straight to law enforcement for something that belongs in a civil court is a serious overstep of DHS, however that is how they are interpreting their duties now.

The Secret Service is now a part of DHS which may be why the report say Homeland Security it was probably the division of the Secret Service that deals with counterfeiting and forgery.

For trademark infringement? I thought that was handled via lawsuits and SS handled financial financial crimes like counterfeit of currency, false identification, credit and debit card fraud etc.
