This has been driving me crazy. With all their technology in the movie whyyyyyy would they use such tiny little regular flashlights that they must have just picked up from Target on the way to the set? That really bugged me.

I think the main question I have is: if that planet was supposedly a 2000-year-old "military installation", why the hell would the Engineers go through the trouble of leaving pictographs with various ancient cultures? What would be the point of directing us to it? For that matter, the only inference in the film is that an Engineer seeded life on Earth; when did they return to Earth to leave all the pictograms, why did they do so, why did they then leave, etc.,.? More holes than a Mafia snitch after a hit.

The pictographs directed us to the star system, not the installation.

The pictographs were also a lot older than 2,000 years old.

Just because something is unexplained does not mean it is a plot hole.

Just saw this and was pretty disappointed. If as much time was spent writing this movie as was spent making it look visually impressive, they might have had something worthwhile.

---Spoilers below---

So we're going on a TRILLION dollar mission to find the origins of life, and the crew of 'professionals/scientists' have the demeanor of gas station attendants- and that's an insult to oil changers everywhere. Not to mention, the crew hasn't met one another (introducing themselves over their first meal after cryogenic sleep), and they receive their mission brief by hologram enroute? Dumb.

And the 'Rock-n-Roll' Doctor 'Charles' was a complete doucher, and I could not wait for him to die. Never once in awe about being on another world, and foolishly pops his helmet like a 12 year old.

Not to mention, flamethrowers as the primary weapon? Really? Dumb.

Revisiting the old tried and true female heroine-angle just like in Alien and Aliens. Wow. How disappointingly unoriginal.

Sucked. Huge thumbs down.

Plus, too many pointless extra characters running around like so many red-shirts from Star Trek; just there to die.

So there's a DVD quality version of Prometheus going around now. And it has a slightly extended ending dealing with the Engineer that was attacked by the giant octopus facehugger thing at the end. Very interesting twist. Has anybody else seen this? Here's a low quality video of the scene:

Spoiler!

Yes, it was the very last scene. Actually, the vid you posted looks sort of rough, like it has unfinished makeup and special effects.

No worries KC Fish. As for the second mouth/thing/wtf, it is different than the original Alien. Additionally, it has human teeth. Other than that, idk what the thing is shooting out of its mouth. Second human mouth?

Thanks. I guess I was a lot more inebriated than I thought when I initially watched it.....

It looked to me like a xenomorph ancestor so to speak. A less evolved version of what we see in the Alien movies.

Either ancestor or different strain from the jars/vases.

Or the same, because aliens always look different from what they chestburst from. Predaliens from predators. Maybe that octopus was a giant face hugger?
