Yes.

I don't have the statistics memorized, but I'd imagine there are more single parent families now than in the 80s, yes.

Yeah, that's a really ****ing stupid outlook.
Well, your brother and I probably come from two different backgrounds. I doubt he grew up with and lived with the kids he is now teaching.

And as far the devaluing thing goes, yes, i think it's silly to devalue his statement simply because he said it in a rude manner. Just because he didn't do it the way we all would like him to do it doesn't make it any less true.

That doesn't undermine what I said, though, at all. It reinforces my point, actually. You're being a hypocrite.

Obviously you are all products of the pussification of our country. When I was in school, this may have been cause for getting permanently removed from whatever class that was...

Anyone that thinks this kid 'did the right thing' (despite whether he may be factually correct that packets suck) is a part of the ****ing problem and not the solution.

Good luck with your shitty jobs and lives in the trailer park.

His first post in this thread was to clearly insult those who agreed with the kid. Before this post was made, no one was talking about the manner in which it was said, everyone was talking about what he actually said.

First, stop pretending that you're some unique little snowflake. You're different, just like every other human being ever.

Second, as to the devaluing, you jumped to a conclusion without sufficient facts and then dug in when evidence that would generally run against your conclusion was presented, and began tossing out the "You can't understand" bullshit. Don't go patting yourself on the back for that. You're just being an arrogant ass.

Actually i am unique in the sense that i've actually had real world experience on all 3 levels of this subject. Im sorry that you would rather dismiss that and write it off as arrogance.

And i never jumped to any conclusion. As i stated, this kid is probably an emotionally distraught teen. I stated that very early in this thread. I never said that i agreed with the way he handled it.

I did say that i agree with what he said and that expecting a teen like this to handle his emotions in an adult fashion isn't always realistic, because teens are very reactionary.

If this were my classroom, i would've had to have pulled this kid out of class, had a long ass talk with him and sent him home.

But again, none of that changes the fact that what he said was true.

So then when you came in with your rant insulting people, who were you directing it at? Because no one was talking about the manner in which he delivered his speech.

But the point is that you are not, in fact, unique, and you are trying to use a false claim of uniqueness to dismiss any contrary opinion. You are, in fact, being an arrogant ass.

Of course you jumped to a conclusion. Without seeing the lead up, you jumped in and claimed the kid was right. In reality, he's partially right at best, and mostly wrong even when given the benefit of the doubt.

Yeah, that's a ridiculous take.

Your disclaimer nothwitstanding, the question of whether he had a legitimate gripe or was just being a whiny little shit does, in fact, change whether what he was saying is true or not.

That kids respond far better from an engaging, thought provoking teacher, opposed to being handed a packet and told "get to reading".

In my experiences, teens get in the most trouble and are the least productive when told to basically go learn on your own.
