what made it remarkable and noteworthy is the potential financial sacrifice the guy made moving inside. The team was struggling at center after Stork left last year and they have a good freshman (soph? can't remember) behind Erving who is a LT. Here is a guy who has started so many games and is such a good student of the game that he stepped inside and was making the protection calls, driving out defensive tackles, wiping out linebackers... just because the team needed it to make their run at the title again. I like him a lot and could see him playing any spot. He's played the two toughest at a high level and shown himself to be a team guy. I think whoever ends up taking him whenever they end up taking him will not regret it five years down the road.

If we take a lineman in the 1st round, he's going to start. The problem the Chiefs have is that none of their options at RT are under contract next season, so it makes more sense to start the rookie at RT and plan to leave him there. I think that leads us more to Collins than Erving.
Now all that said, after seeing this in a mock draft, I think the Chiefs would be much better off drafting a playmaker at 18. Whether that's a WR, TE, DB, or ILB |

I'm fine with the pick if you pick a position for him and put him there from the beginning. Start him at C? Fine....but don't get 3 games into preseason and realize that Kush is just fine at OC and then move Erving to RT.

The five tackles worth consideration at this pick, in case it wasn't clear:
La'el Collins (OG/RT) Andrus Peat (LT) T.J. Clemmings (RT) Cedric Ogbuehi (LT/RT) Jake Fisher (LT/RT) Not much separates them in my eyes... But you just know Dorsey covets Ogbuehi and Clemmings. |

Peat's the only player I like as much as Erving from the crew, although Jake Fisher is right on their heels.
Collins trails those three by a good amount, and Clemmings and Ogbuehi are miles behind. But... this is Dorsey we're talking about. I bet Dorsey loves Erving, Clemmings, and Ogbuehi. |

reading about erving, he does sound like the kind of athletic freak dorsey wants...
and if getting maclin meant letting hudson walk and drafting erving, well, ok...

I'd have gone Collins, Peat and Fisher over Erving.
Fatty's not the problem, it's the fatty that was chosen that bothers me. And yes, I have already resigned myself to the fact that this will be the pick IRL.
