Why is this relevant to MU basketball?

It's really a shame Bill Self has all those tourney wins and so little to show for it.
You'd think the fanbase would be getting edgy, but apparently they are content with just winning conference titles. Kind of odd for a supposed 'blue blood' program . . . . . . |

I saw Coach Martin just recently arrived in CoMo. Wonder when we get a decision from Porter Sr. on whether he accepted the assistant coach position or not?

Jontay Porter is a five-star big. Very similar to Tilmon, actually, just a grade younger. If they don't get Tilmon, I'd expect Jontay to reclassify and be at Mizzou for next season. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Porter's a 1 and done and Jontay may only get you 2 in his own right (bigs need more development). I'd rather he take the baton from Michael rather than play a single season alongside him and potentially get little more than an 18 win season from it. There's just so little actual tournament caliber talent on this roster and recent days have only made that more apparent. Barnett and occasionally Phillips are the only guys you could see making an impact in March. And MPJ, as good as he appears to be, isn't that kind of Lonzo Ball, unique transformational player. He's a great player in his own right (Durant?) but not a force multiplier that sees all angles at all times like Lonzo does. Let's say they keep Roberts, re-classify Porter, Martin keeps Smith and maybe snags Sarr. So you have Barnett, Phillips, Puryear and slag from this roster (or whatever you would call a half-step up from slag with Hughes), then Porter, Porter, Roberts, Smith and Sarr as freshmen. Is that a tournament team? 1 -- Phillips, Roberts 2 -- Smith, Hughes, Walton 3 -- Porter Jr., Puryear 4 -- Barnett, Nikko 5 -- Porter, Sarr, Smith Hell, I don't know. Freshman are just such funny animals. You just can't tell how they'll come together and there's so much turnover there that I don't know how we can know if it's a good risk to take re-classifying Porter. Then again, if we don't, he could develop a little more and turn himself into a 1 and done by the time he arrives in '18 (IF he arrives at all) so maybe it would be best to just do it and lock him down now.
