Misc ever make knives? - Page 4

i wanna make some knives out of and old cross cut saw i have. and since my father is long gone i need whatever advice i can get. i can remember him saying he made his from a crosscut saw, i figure because the steel would hold an edge.

most important - what kind of bandsaw blade would be needed( i dont wanna take the temper from the steel)? is there a better steel on the market for a decent price? handles? is there a market?

when you have 3 generations on the same blood on the same patch of dirt you tend to accumulate lots of stuff.

Help me out i have a peter wright anvil stamped 3 1 5.
its heavy but i cant gauge the weight. i can pick it up pretty easy but wouldnt wanna haul it all day.

the first # is the Hundred weight(112 lb.) , the second is Quater weight or 1/4 of 112 lbs.= (28 lb.), the third # is in Lbs.
So 1-1-1 = 141 lbs

&

3-1-5 = ?

You're making my brain hurt in the morning.

Nice anvil size for a shop, but you're right, it's not a real "mover a rounder", even for studs like you.

How's the condition? Chips? Cracks? What's the horn like?

no chips,cracks,horn is solid and its LEVEL. picked up my vice from wayne its a allied brand multi purpose bench vise 120mm(he has the biggest vise i have ever seen, HUGE). he got all excited when i took him the goddard book and flipped through it. He then told me about a member of BAM who lives in willard (ironic this dudes last name is willard).
So a 20 minute visit turned into a hour and a half visit. He is going to let me borrow his coal forge and help me make a small gas forge. Also gave me dibs on his scrap pile as long as i ran it by him first.
Said he would start looking around for a belt grinder and i told him i think i can just make one.

So im gonna pick up the forge and my welding table here in a week or two and get started and just see where it takes me 1st.

Hey Mo, check out this kids tomahawks. Met him a couple years ago, good kid, really takes the craft serious. I was suprised how much fun they are to throw.
