Draft Mock

1. OT Ereck Flowers - Miami (6'6" 329)

Large, athletic offensive tackle. Can kick and slide quite well, especially for his size. Good punch, but needs to develop there. Good movement blocker; can step and seal and can set up second level blocks. Picks up blitzes well. Would be best at right tackle, sometimes showing bad technique against speed. Needs to learn to play with better balance and with better hand placement against NFL rushers. Will not get physically overmatched, but must focus on the finer points of playing tackle in the NFL.

2. WR Devin Smith - Ohio State (6'0" 199)

Extremely fast, very quick, receiver with solid hands. Very solid route runner at all levels. Can set up defensive backs on multiple routes. Good at finding soft spots in zones. Threat to take it to the house every play. Best deep receiver in the draft. Uncanny ability to track and adjust to poorly thrown balls on deep routes. Incredibly high ceiling. Must watch the routes he ran and didn't get the ball to truly appreciate his talent. Needs work as a run blocker, but not unwilling. Very good special teams gunner. Similar to Mike Wallace.

3. DE Henry Anderson - Stanford (6'6" 297)

Stout defender at the point of attack with the frame to hold. Shows good initial burst and punch, as well as adequate bend to put pressure on the quarterback. Needs to improve his explosiveness. Shows the traits to develop into an elite 3-4 DE at the next level if he's put in a situation where he can develop lower body strength. Similar physical tools to JJ Watt (when he came out of Wisconsin).

3. TE Jeff Heuerman - Ohio State (6'5" 254)

Best blocking tight end in class. Physical and can take defensive lineman out of plays. Plus speed with ability to pressure the seam and be an effective intermediate target. Great hands, with ability to high point and make tough catches over the top. Needs to work on route running and be crisper. Scheme dictated far less chances to be a receiver as a senior.

4. OG Mark Glowinski - West Virginia (6'4" 307)

A very underrated prospect, Glowinski is a tough and scrappy interior lineman. While he needs some work on technique, the physical tools are there for him to become a starter. Aggressive blocker that will go after defenders. Has shown a nasty demeanor and will knock his guy on his can when given the chance. Effectively steps and seals. Adequate drive off the ball in the run game. Has a good punch and doesn't get bullrushed. High level athleticism as a former left tackle at the JUCO level. Potential to play tackle in the pros. If he works out well, there is potential for him to shoot up boards.

5. FS Adrian Amos - Penn State (6'0" 209)

Very active safety that can cover quite a bit of ground quickly. Can play the ball well and create some turnovers. Sticky in man coverage and plays zone well. Not a lights-out tackler, but effective. All-around solid game that won't cost you big plays. Looks to be a prototypical single-high type that you can rely on. Not an in-the-box safety that can routinely shed moving lineman and make plays downhill. Very similar to Husain Abdullah.

5. CB Craig Mager - Texas State (5'11" 201)

Tough corner with outstanding mirror ability. Physical in press. Quick and shifty with plus closing ability to the man and ball. Doesn't give up big plays and limits yards after the catch with great tackling ability. Ability to contest jump balls. Needs some coaching on route recognition at the next level. Adequate deep speed to stick with most any outside target.

5. ILB Zach Vigil - Utah State (6'2" 236)

Active linebacker that is decisive and reads the play well. Doesn't make false movements and is always zeroed in on the football. Has also shown the ability to play sideline-to-sideline. Outstanding cover skills for a collegiate linebacker. Instincts and foodball acumen are above average. Very effective interior blitzer. Improved as a senior attacking downhill versus the run. Reliable tackler. Needs to improve core strength and technique to effectively take on NFL interior blockers, especially stack and shed to make plays in the backfield at the next level.

6. OC Greg Mancz - Toledo (6'4" 301)

A fundamentally sound offensive linemen with experience at several spots along the front. Extremely well coached in technique. Sets up extremely well in all facets. Takes good angles. Too much ground given up in his pass pro drop. Needs to develop better functional lower body strength.

7. CB Bobby McCain - Memphis (5'9" 195)

Terrific slot cornerback in that he flips his hips extremely well and can keep pace with shifty receivers. Incredibly quick and plus change of direction skills. Great in off-man coverage, which fits well in multiple defensive back schemes that the Chiefs employ often. Able and willing in run support. Plays the ball well and can making something happen when he gets his hands on it. Does not have the size and current ability to play press, but has the strength and skill set to learn it.


7. WR Deon Long - Maryland (6'0" 192)

A receiver with great speed and quickness. Outstanding hands with incredibly large catch radius for his size. Can make acrobatic catches and catches in traffic. Has game breaking ability with the ball in his hands. Needs coaching and development on route tree, not polished. Has an interesting transfer history that needs to be thoroughly investigated. Broken leg in senior season doesn't help him overall. Has the skill set to be a better pro than collegiate player.

Don't know much about McCain, but otherwise looks great. Very realistic as well. Not sure if you can get Hali and Ellis that cheap, but otherwise IMO well done.

At this point, I do not like Flowers, especially as a first round pick where you want a guy who has the potential to play, at minimum, RT or either guard spot. He's got poor feet and a horrible kick step.

I'd go Rashard Greene or Tyler Lockett over Devin Smith in the second. Both Greene and Lockett are impeccable route runners and willing blockers, despite their size and both have more than acceptable long speed. Smith was never asked to run a full route tree in college and I'm worried that won't translate well over to the next level. The Chiefs need guys who are going to come in and be polished on route running. It's why I was so high on Beckham last season.

I'm not completely sold on Stephone Anthony. He had a remarkably good defensive line in front of him to keep him clean. Seems to have trouble working to the ball on pass plays. Goes downhill well, but it looks like he gets tangled up on the offensive linemen more than he should.

At this point, I can't see Dorsey even touching a CB that's under 6' no matter how skilled they may be. Tall and strong, he's looking for prototypes in the press scheme Sutton uses.

Heuerman and Vigil are absolute draft winners in my book as I love those two guys for the Chiefs system/current personnel.

Over 70 catches and over 1000 yards in back-to-back years of 2012 and 2013. Had a PCL tear at the end of 2013. I don't think he was 100% in 2014 and it affected him a good portion of the year, production dropped to 39 catches for 474 yards. Wasn't quite as explosive with his worst YPC of his career (12.2).

Should be back to 100%, and he's getting quite a bit of interest. He's a very consistent possession type that knows a WCO. He's good at getting open and catching the football. Those two things in combination have been severely lacking in KC. He's a good bridge as KC rebuilds their receiving corps.

Not sure New England is going to let him get away, but you never know. I'm hoping he comes to KC and doesn't leave, but that's my opinion.

I disagree on Flowers, but hey that's why we have opinions.

I can see your point on Greene and Lockett, but Lockett to me is limited to the slot. I think Greene might be too. The Chiefs need an outside threat and Smith runs better routes than he's given credit for.

As for Mager, he's 5'11-1/2". In case you want to know, Darrelle Revis is the exact same height and was only 3 pounds heavier than Mager coming out, Sutton was with the NYJ when they drafted him. Tramon Williams is 5'11-1/8" and Sam Shields is 5'10-3/4", and Dorsey was with GB when they drafted both of them. I think you are off base with the assumption that they must have this humongous CB. It's simply not true.

The best CBs in the NFL are between 5'10"-6'1" because they have enough length to keep stride deep, yet enough agility to flip and mirror with quicker receivers. Obviously if you can get a longer CB that can do that, great, but they don't grow on trees. I remember a study put out, probably 2011, by Pro Football Reference about Pro Bowl CBs. It was something to the affect that 80% of those CBs fall within the range I listed with the heaviest concentration at 5'11". Looking at the CBs selected since, that really hasn't changed. There are few CBs in the league that are legitimately talented and over 6'1" or taller.

In 2014, 2 CBs made the Pro Bowl that were "near" 6'1", Patrick Peterson (6'0-1/4") and Aqib Talib (6'0-3/4"). 1 CB was over that, Richard Sherman at 6'2-5/8".

I'm told linebacker Stephone Anthony had a phenomenal day. He only did position drills but teams were impressed with his overall performance, especially his cover skills. Anthony met with the Minnesota Vikings and San Francisco 49ers yesterday before having dinner with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Anthony has been on a straight shot north up draft boards since September. He stood out during the Senior Bowl, then looked terrific at the Combine and capped it off today at pro day. How high will Anthony be selected? The second round seems like a lock but it now looks as though he'll be chosen in the early to middle part of the frame. That poses a problem for a team like the Green Bay Packers, who've shown a lot of interest in the linebacker.

Might not make it to the 3rd rd but great pick up if that happens!

Anthony was decent, but I don't know about taking him earlier than the 3rd. I like his height/weight/speed combo and he did some things nice. He had alot of talent around him and wasn't really what I'd consider a star. I think he can become something good in the league, but I didn't see enough to make me think he should be a 2nd round pick.

You think about guys like James Laurinaitis and Paul Posluszny that were absolute studs in college, and they go 2nd round. Anthony is nowhere close.

Seen something out there about Boling probably being a 5-6 million per guy and Wisniewski a 3.5 million per guy. Might have to reconsider my offseason wish list again if that's the case. If you could get Boling at 5.5 and Wisniewski at 3.5, that's better to me than Hudson at 9 per and whatever the Chiefs can scrape up at LG.

I completely disagree. I think Anthony was a stud. I thought he showed great ability to blitz, to cover, and to fill gaps. He was a huge reason they were the top defense in the country last year.
