LDT: Untapped Potential Or Just A Guy?

http://www.arrowheadpride.com/2016/4...rdif-potential

Nice write up with some .gifs

I don't think he is giving LDT enough credit for how far he's come along in just two years. The fact that he was starting last year and showed flashes is impressive to me. I didn't expect anything from him till at least year 3 being how raw he was and the level of competition he was playing against.

I do agree that he needs to improve in year 3, but I don't see any reason why he won't. Last year was a great learning experience for him and playing next to Schwart/Fisher should help alone. Hopefully, despite what Dorsey has said, he ends up back at LG.

If that's average to you then LDT isn't it.

I was referring more to his general playing ability.

Right now he's skills are average, his impact is average

half a step above Jag, just good enough to start at a position where teams just try to 'make do'. Right guard is probably just above punter in terms of priority for a team and LDT is just barely good enough to start at it.

If he was at any other position on the entire team he would be on the bench.

Sounds like to me he is just playing until he pays his way through school anyway. He will probably be some random, early retirement in a couple of years.

it's proving a point that he wasnt good in 2015. Read the entire thread....it is full of LDT apologist. The 'rankings' from various sites show that he was one of the worst starting guards in the NFL. Even if one argues the validity of the ranking, one should at least be able to admit that he wasnt good or even average.

He could get better, or he could not. In college he practiced less than other offensive lineman because of his schooling. In the NFL he isnt doing anything in the offseason to get better. While the rest of the players in the NFL are honing their craft, he is stagnating. He doesnt treat it as a year round profession.

Offensive line is far more than physical (running, weightlifting). He isnt putting in the mental reps or learning the tricks of his trade in the offseason.

agree. He is a 4yr starter and is already ahead of LDT with his footwork, hand movement, and mental part of the game.

LDT treats the sport like it used to be....another job, not THE ONLY JOB.

NFL players are professionals in every sense of the word, well-paid and well-trained students of the game whose lives revolve around football. The league, in turn, surrounds them with resources to help them become the best they can be.
LDT's life does not revolve around football. He doesnt treat it has his full time profession, and it isnt his #1 priority.

LDT is a student of medicine, but not the game.

You better send Andy Reid an e-mail, planetdoc! I don't think he's aware that his starting RG is pursuing medicine so hard in the offseason. Sounds like if somebody doesn't put a stop to this, Alex Smith will be going home in a body bag!

They are exactly aware. Its frustrating. They talk about having the 'best 5 guys', but Reid's time in KC has shown anything but that with the offensive line. There have been plenty of guys who have been handed starting jobs who havent earned it.

And yet three straight winning seasons, a playoff win and two seasons of at least a 9-0 run was the result.

Awful.

Why do you think Andy Reid chooses to start LDT when he knows everything you've said about him?

He wants to be an OB/Gyn in Canada, too. I'll bet he performs a lot of abortions. You should probably get on the horn with Reid about that.

dick vermiel had winning seasons. Can fans not recognize that he had awful defenses?

Just because Reid wins doesnt mean fans cant recognize flaws that could potentially hold the team back (such as clock management, reliance of passing game more than running game, or some players handed starting roles).

Reid does inexplicable things such as clock management, starting Jeff Linkenbach and Mike McGlynn, etc.

Going along with Donald Stephenson's putsch to start at LT over Fisher to start last year was inexplicable and indefensible to an insane degree over the aforementioned player decisions.

I'm pretty sure if Andy Reid thought LDT spending his time with medicine in the summer was a problem, he'd make it known to LDT and force him to either find another team or leave the league.

You also don't know what LDT does with his spare time in the summer when he's not getting his shit done.

I hate this conversation because you're forcing me to defend somebody who I don't really give a shit about. I'm just saying that your constant bitching about how the guy is trying to be a doctor in the offseason is baseless because he plays right ****ing ****ing guard. Also, he wasn't as bad as you said he was last year. He played better than Fulton in 2014, and was almost certainly better than Asamoah in 2013. He's playing next to the best RT KC has had in well over a decade and a pretty damn good C.

Basically, who cares if he's a JAG? He'll find success on this team and be just good enough. That's a fair prediction.

6-10
8-8
13-3
7-9
10-6

One playoff appearance.

Vermeil never established any consistency, nor did he and Peterson attempt to build the team through the draft and undrafted free agents.

They drafted for need (Downing, Sims, Freeman, etc.), recklessly signed free agents and never had a plan.

That's the exact opposite of the current Chiefs administration.
