I think a lot of loyal family dogs would do in that circumstance, not just because it is a Pitbull.

Probably true. I just titled it that way because there are a few anti-pitbull people around here that need to see the good side.

My lab/pit mix would do the same in a heartbeat. I've seen him corner my friends that he hasn't met who walked into the house unannounced. He had them backed into the corner by the door showing his pearly whites, inches away from dude's crotch. Chief maintained control, and never actually bit, but the guy did what he should, and stood perfectly still. After a couple seconds, I said "down" and he immediately went back to being a pet, and sat down. Sniffed the dudes hand, and was totally chill with him from that point on. When I praised him my friend was very confused... I told him I wanted that behavior towards strangers that just walk in.

Hope Sarge makes a full recovery. Glad to finally see a story where a pit bull attacks some bad guys and not children!

All well and good. Doesn't mean I'd trust them around my kids, I wouldn't.

If he would have mauled them to death he would have deserved a lifetime supply of his favorite doggy treats. In any event, good job, Sarge and hope you have a full recovery!

Pit Bull owners are like parents. They are EXTREMELY biased about their own. Soo many parents automatically refuse to believe their kids can do anything wrong. In broad strokes, Pit Bull owners I'm afraid are much the same.

I would, if they have been raised properly. Both of my boys have pitbull mixes (they were both rescued from shelters) and they are great dogs. I trust them around all of our family. This one was a little rough at first as she was already about a year old when he got her and she had developed some bad habits. Thankfully, my son knows how to discipline a powerful breed and she's a sweetheart now. Well mannered. And a clown. We think she also has boxer (which would explain the clown part).

I don't personally own a pitbull but I do know they can do a lot of harm. That being said, I don't subscribe to the idiotic notion that they are naturally vicious. Yes, they often times have a strong will and their bit is very powerful. Those 2 things require an owner who knows how to properly raise a powerful breed. Same goes for owners of Rotweillers, Dobermans, German Shepherds, etc.

Good on you. Just too many cases of an owner saying "my pit is the most loving thing: right up until they rip a face off. Not saying that applies to you. Problem is they are all watered down inbreds now from so many dirt bags that want to own a "pit bull" that they are dangerous and not true to the breed.
If one showed up stray on my property when my boys were around I'd put a bullet between it's eyes no questions asked.

I'd do that to any dog who showed up like that....not just pitbulls.
