I trust Paylor and if he said the Chiefs see it as freelancing that needs to stop, then that’s how the team sees things.

The deal will get done.

These things are never solved overnight.

I noticed it around week 5 or 6 when I was trying to figure out why our run defense was just so god-awful. They had more talent than that. So I started watching individual guys along the line on a play to play basis. That's when I realized that Williams was a pretty lousy run-defender despite having the frame to do the job. It's also how I became such a Stan for Nnadi. You watch the play and you'll never notice him. You watch him, OTOH, and so many little things he does jump out at you. (This was also when I realized that Justin Houston was, to my surprise, a pretty shitty run defender as well all of the sudden)

So when you have those two on opposite sides of the spectrum and you watch what Jones is doing out there - he's WAAAAY closer to the Williams side than the Nnadi side. He was constantly looking to penetrate. Even on the run plays he made, that was how he did it. But the problem is that you could watch the linebackers behind him trying to read the running lanes and they just couldn't do it because he'd just LEEEROOOOOOY JEEENKINS!!! shit and blast forward. In the process he'd absolutely hang them out to dry.

I don't know that I ever saw a real breakdown of his run defense because he was kindof a sacred cow last year. He's damn likeable and he made big plays so people didn't criticize him much. But starting in October and through the rest of the season I know we had several conversations 'round these parts where we'd talk about it.

It's not a new thing and it's not smoke blowing by the Chiefs. He was constantly going out there and trying to 1-gap. At times it made for big plays but just as often it hung out the guys playing around him.
Sounds a lot like most of the defense was tired of Suttons scheme and wanted to make impact plays. These guys are all aggressive attacking defenders that don’t want to play on their heels.

Houston commented about that.

Chiefs just drafted a DT...might be prudent to see how Jones fares in a 4-3 before shelling out $70 mil.

It would be hard sitting there with $43 million guaranteed on the table when you are "only" making $1.2.

No one wants a player to free lance when it is not working. Although if a player seems something and reacts correctly to it and makes a huge play then that free lancing is wanted.
To me it comes down to why was he "free lancing". If he saw something and reacted was he right and someone on the opposition reacted to him and stopped Jones from making a play. Did Jones just read it wrong? There are just too many possibilities without more information.
Unless you are a player that knows the D extremely well or are one of the coaches it is a guessing game therefore should be left to the coaches and staff.
To an extent, yes. If you can see how the entire front is aligned, ie who is shading where, you can make a pretty good educated guess on his gap assignment. I'm gonna go back and try to single him out on some games mid season and see what I can find.

And as a general rule I'd agree with you.

But again - this is something many of us thought we saw during the course of the year. And no, you can never be sure, but you can see a LB behind him behave strangely and ask yourself 'now why the hell did he do that?'. Or you can see the other guys on the line engage, Jones split and create a cutback lane and then the RB cut right under him and come up with a pretty informed guess as to what happened.

Nothing is set in stone, no. We aren't the coaching staff. Buuuuuut.....now there's corroboration from Terez as well. And it sure makes all those things we thought we saw over the year something worth pondering over further, does it not?

I'm generally pretty confident that I'm seeing what I think I'm seeing. And when that happens to align with comments we're hearing from the most tuned in dude in the game right now (Terez), well that means quite a bit. I think the Chiefs concerns w/r/t his willingness to go off script are legitimate and worth worrying about.

How exactly is he “throwing a fit”? And he’s not “hanging” with Leveon, he’s working out with him and others.

Also, he’ll be in camp day 1.

Maybe Jones was freelancing because he was trying to overcome the inadequacies of other players as well as Sutton's complete incompetence and shit scheme.

Assuming we sign Jones, who is our best and most valuable defender, what do we do moving forward for cap space?

Hmmm..after 2019 I’d probably make these moves:

-cut or let walk-Dirty Dan, X Williams, Tanoh K
-cut Colquitt after this season. He’s expensive and not needed as much with Pat.
-cut or trade LDT (we were decent with him out last year. He’s a luxury we can’t affoed once Pat gets paid). Andy always finds decent OL.
-Trade Watkins for a 2nd rd pick-not enough money for him and Tyreek is cleared. A new team will give him a new contract so the cap number won’t hinder the trade. He’s a luxury.
-Make a decision on Hitchens. If he still isn’t the guy we thought we were getting, take the loss and June 1st his ass. He needs to prove he’s worth keeping for $11.3 million in 2020.
