2nd Round pick Mitch Morse finally explained!....

This regime hasn't had a 2nd round pick since they arrived in KC. They simply didn't know what to do with the pick and panicked...

In this moment of panic, Reid just blurted out the first name that popped up in his head, as he always has a lineman on his mind at all times. Dorsey, still frozen like a deer staring in to headlights due to having his first ever 2nd round pick as a GM, chose not to dispute this pick.

... thus history was made with another Eric Fisher pick. We went with "upside and potentially" instead of a sure thing.

yup.

They scout based on team needs and they draft BPA from their board that's built on the scouts notes from players they scouted.

I think the chiefs were moving up for Collins.

I suspect that the chiefs have an algorithm which defines how much they are willing to trade up or down at a particular pick.

based on nfl.com draft grade, Collins has a significantly higher grade then the players picked after him.

so they saw his value far greater than anyone else available and decided (based on their algorithm) the most they would be willing to trade.

The other reason i suspect a cb was a possibility was because they went back and grabbed a cb in the 3rd round.

I suspect that Dorsey saw the major weaknesses of the team as: no wr touchdowns, only 6 INT, poor interior offensive line play.

It appears he has aggressively tried to improve on all those weaknesses.

You think that they drafted a corner @18 and then tried to trade up to draft another corner at the top of the second? Going from 49 up to 41 would have cost us our 4th and 6th rounders. That's spending 4 draft picks on 2 corners and I just don't see Dorsey doing that.

It's possible, though.

Fleming and Smith are both probably gone after this year.

To quote myself. They wanted Perryman and shit their pants when he was gone.
There's no way the Chiefs would've predicted the Chargers would take an ILB in round 2, (one pick before them), since it wasn't a need position.
Dorsey - Uh oh... wadda we do now?!?
Reid - lets go to Q39 and think this over a nice Mr. Burns sangwich. Our research department says they're real good. OHHH YEAHH!!!1!!!!11!
Hunt - Our research department also indicates our fans want a fatty. Lemme see... eenie meenie miney mo... Quick, grab a pencil. The pick will be Mich Morsley. He should be just fat enough to calm our most devoted suckers, er, I mean, fans.

I think the player they wanted to move up for was Kendricks. I do think they would have taken Perryman, but after he was taken taken they went for the next player they liked which was Morse, who they decided to reach on even though he was a 3rd rd guy.

FWIW, a lot of teams reached in the 2nd round. Seattle, Arizona, New England, Denver and Pittsburgh all reached IMO. Just didn't see those players viewed as 2nd round guys.

Yup, you caught us with our pants down. Always wanted to draft a two down thumper with our second rounder.

I can't wait to watch Peyton tear him to shreds when he's forced into a zone and Jamaal juke the ever living shit out of his suspect agility.

GL man, you got us good.

It was just the most plausible scenario I could come up with in regards to drafting a low grade fatty pants in round 2.

i see morse as sort of a poor mans cam erving--versatile, an play guard or tackle and projects to center...he was a rising prospect as draft came...and his former teammate justin britt was taken in rd 2 and started for a super bowl team. saw reports saying morse was a better prospect than britt..

Of course it does. If an OL just so happens to be the best player available in each round, no team is going to draft nothing but 7 offensive linemen.

THE POINT should be that this Chiefs draft is a perfect indicator of what happens when you veer too far in the need-based selections. You get shitty picks like Ramik Wilson, and you allow yourself to confuse your board by saying, "We really like this player and he's a need... let's draft Mitch Morse with our 2nd round pick just to be safe."

There are no good 3-down ILBs except for MAYBE Eric Kendricks or Stephone Anthony. The Chiefs made a good selection in DJ Alexander-- take the guy with the elite traits and hope they turn into something good. Instead they compromised their shit with need and got Wilson. Good luck stopping the run with him. We may as well sign Mauga to a 5-year extension if THAT'S how we're going to draft ILBs.
