When you've lived through 7 of them, many with dire warnings of impending doom and many more of them that wind up not coming in the end—you learn to hold some of what is predicted with a grain of salt or at least keep such things at the back of your mind while you prep or to not get hysterical.

I lived in Biloxi (Ocean Springs) for two years. I watched only one dire prediction storm, only to watch it weaken to a tropical storm before landfall. Long time residents of the gulf particularly have an instinct. This instinct applies in the east to NC. Just my two cents. Irma is a close call. Frustrating.

Yeah, I've lived here for almost 30 years and usually have a "meh" attitude towards most hurricanes, but this one has everyone's attention here. Probably due to Harvey, it's size and consistent intensity. I've been through plenty of storms, but never seen people freak out like this.
