Is Veach waiting for a loss to start fixing the defense?

Maybe I'm wrong, but in my opinion, when you have this type of once in a lifetime offense, you do what needs to be done to "buy" a championship (ie: Royals in 2015). I know we're just a few games in, but at what point does Veach start trading off draft picks to fix the defense? Or is he possibly that naïve that he does nothing and rolls with the "we'll improve as the year progresses" type of stance? Another couple weeks for the "teams playing for draft position" to separate themselves?

BTW, it took all I could to write that in a civil manner without any swearing or bitching.

I would normally agree with you. But with this offense, and the fact we haven't been to an AFC championship game since I was in elementary school, I think you take the shot.

I don't see how they could bring in enough to fix this defense without creating massive problems later from the lost draft picks.

We have the QB now, and he's only 23.

And he's having a once-in-a-generation season. There's no guarantee he plays like this forever. Given the history of this team, I don't see how you don't take whatever shots it takes to try and win it all THIS year.

After 40+ years of failure, I'm honestly shocked people would rather bank picks. What has that ever gotten us?

I get it, but the history of the team doesn't have anything to do with Patrick. I would rather they didn't mortgage the future trying to do the next-to-impossible this year. We should still be looking to build a team that can become a perennial contender.

Next to impossible?

They're 3-0 while giving up 27ppg. If they could cut that to 21ppg, they're the favorite to win it all.

If you're playing the odds, why would you ever just say "wait until next year"? What happens if Mahomes comes back down to earth next year, or the NFL figures something out to stop him, or something worse?

This team is unlike any team they've had in my lifetime. This is exactly the time you throw caution to the wind and do something unconventional.

When you have a QB setting new NFL records every week, at some point you have to go all in and forget about next year.

Would you trade Speaks or KPass for Earl Thomas? Those are our recent second round picks.

Uh, yes. Part of that is of course because these picks look like projects, but if we need to win now, we go for it.

This is hardly mortgaging our view.

Drafting well consistently is how the class franchises stay near the top... other than by getting their franchise QB.

We need to aspire to that and not assume that no Chiefs franchise will ever be able to draft well because we're cursed or something.

Their defensive drafts have been borderline horrible. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting better results.

I have ZERO faith that they'll turn this defense around through the draft.

Teams make room for players all the time. The "cap" excuse is something Chiefs fans have conditioned themselves to believe over time.
