Some Things About Today's Game Week 16: KC 36 The Pitts 10

Some Things About Today’s Game Week 16: KC 36 The Pitts 10

Before I get started, I wanted to make sure to say once again, SCREW YOU Michael Irvin and SCREW YOU Terry Bradshaw. Both of these wastes of skin had us buried at 3-4 and had the AFC West figured as a track meet between the Bolts and Faiders. Guess what? The Bolts did their usual December Chargering; and like every Faid-Donk game, I really didn’t care who won; I just wanted them to beat the day living crap out of each other. And now that we’ve taken the tape at the finish line, they’re both barely over .500 at 8-7 and both on the outside looking in at the playoffs. Six T-shirts and Six Hats in a row. Never been done before. We are watching history.

During the CBS Broadcast, Romo kept saying “Boy, it’s going to be tough for KC without Kelce.” Well, not so much. Kelce is a hall of fame player. The best Tight End ever. He’s now been part of a team that’s won six divisions in a row. We came into the seasons with four TE’s on the starting 53, because we use all our guys during the course of a season. Too bad Fortson was out for the year because he would have eaten big in a game like this.

Today was the Pringle Show. 75 yards and two TDs. That’s usually a Tyreek stat line. He played sparingly today, mostly as a decoy. Nine different guys caught passes from Patrick, who quietly had a really great day. 258 yards, 3 TDs and no picks. Curiously, he had zero rushing yards in this game. He was sacked a couple times, but both times was because he held on to the ball just a tick too long. In the end we showed the Steelers our Henne, who had a serious case of the whoopsies. Glad to get him a little PT when it wouldn’t hurt anything. My only bitch on offense from today is if D Rob doesn’t learn how to go north-south, I’m going to have to find him and kill him for the greater good.

The only TD the defense gave up was in the last minute of the game as a Rudolph Garbage Time pass. It was really great having Chris Jones back from Covid and Sneed back from family leave. Ward had a beautiful one handed pick, and Honey Badger got a fumble. The D gave up less than 100 yards rushing to Harris. Our leading tackler was Leonardo DiCaprio Bootle. Yeah. Bootle. We won the AFC West in a game where Bootle was our leading tackler. Defense dominated with no Bolton or Fenton and with all the starters rested in the fourth quarter. Just a total defensive butt kicking.

Speaking of Butt Kicking, we did miss Buttkicker, but our kicker off the street was Fried. I’m not going to call him by his first name, because that’s the kicker who will remain nameless. So we’ll call him Fried. He missed a XTP and one FG attempt, but all his kickoffs were OK and he did hit 3 our of 4 field goal attempts. Brother John got two punts, and did a nice job holding. Maybe both of these guys will get their own NFL jobs next year after being seen playing for KC. We need to make it through next week at Cincy with this dynamic duo, but I’ll feel a lot better when our regular guys both make it back.

At the time of this writing, they said the X-Ray on CEH’s collarbone was negative; so it’s not broken. But it wouldn’t surprise me if they sit him until playoff time. If we can hold on and get the bye, that would give him three weeks off, and hopefully that would be enough time to heal up. Honey Badger had a quad injury, but I think he’ll be OK. All in all, we got out of it reasonably healthy. I worry very much about going to Cincy. All the teams in the AFC North have always been pretty dirty. Cincy’s in a dogfight in the AFC North, and they’re really going to want to win that game bad. Hopefully we can hold the rest of the AFC off with a stiff arm and make it to the end of the regular season with the number one seed.

Imagine if we can get a fourth straight AFC Championship Game at Arrowhead? Wow. How cool would that be? What a great end to the Christmas Weekend. Eight wins in a row, six AFC West Championships in a row. And we ain’t even close to done yet!

PS: I look forward to this week’s edition of “Pittsburgh Dad.” That dude must be suicidal tonight

One final thing: I found this picture in my Facebook feed today. January 4, 1998. Chiefs lose a playoff heartbreaker to Denver 14-10 at Arrowhead to Horse Face and Neilbonics. Chiefs wouldn’t make it back to the playoffs for six more years after this game. This is a still shot from NFL films, who caught me as we lost. Mrs B. is rubbing me on the head. Moral of the story: Don’t take all this winning for granted. It’s special and must be enjoyed fully while it’s here with us. I’m savoring every single minute of it. So should you.

Didn't really need Hill either today.

And you look like a larger version of Paul Giamatti in 1998.

Good stuff as always, George.

I think the Chiefs played rope a dope with Tyreek. They fed him early to make sure the Steelers kept paying attention to him, and then they hit everyone else the rest of the game.

DUDE! THAT'S YOU?! I watched that video growing up since I was 5 years old and memorized the entire thing. That highlight video, as sad as it is, was the closest thing I had to good nostalgia of KC during our dark years.

Amazing win today, btw. Living near Denver right now during their dark times (but seriously, they won a Super Bowl in 2016, they do not even know darkness) has made me savor this ride even more.

Great write up George!

The Chief's O line were opening up holes so big that Andy could have run through them with sacks full of hamburgers!

Gay was spending so much time in the Steeler backfield they should have charged him rent.

Rudolf was acting so hyper on that last Steeler drive- I wished Miles Garret was around to whack him in the head with a helmet.

D Robb is like a broken compass, he never knows the right direction.

Pringle made my jingle bells tingle.

Great write-up as always G-blow. I think it should be mandated to include a retro pic from one CP member at the bottom of each of these.
