Also, with new guitars, I always clean the fingerboards with WD40, especially on the fret edges. Every manufacturer dyes rosewood fingerboards and the excess will end up on your fingers and strings for months if you don't clean it up. I use Ernie Ball 10-52's tuned down a half step with Tone Pros Locking Tune-a-matic and Grover Locking tuners on all my Gibson style guitars. Once the strings have been properly stretched, they never, ever go out of tune, even if I don't play them for months. I pull them out of my guitar closet and immediately cut tracks without even tuning. If you still have issues after cleaning, stretching, etc., there might be a problem with the nut slot. If you're not comfortable with cleaning up the slot with a file, try some Big Bends Nut Sauce. Pete Thorn turned me onto to it in 2014 and it can be a life saver. |

The backup wooden box showed up today. It's exactly like the old one, which is showing signs of wear after pounding on it almost every week for 5 years.

Started playing bass back in the late 60s. I was working at a dinner theater (lighting) and this guy Ray Evans and his band was performing there. Come to find out, he had written the theme to "Bonanza". After the show, I went to the stage and began talking to the band. I mentioned that I really liked the Bass and his player says "Here - try it out"..I was hooked after that. Been playing ever since. I have went through (seems like) hundreds of rigs since them, but there are what I play now.
I tried to upload a pic - but no luck 62RI Fender Precision 75RI Fender Jazz 57RI Precision 2001 Rickenbacker 4003 2004 Rickenbacker 4003 2012 Fender FSR Antigua Precision 2010 Ampeg Heritage 8x10 Cab and Heritage SVT Head 1970 Acoustic 370/371 2008 Ampeg 8x10 Cab 2006 Ampeg 6X10 Cab 2009 Markbass CMD121P w/extension cab 2003 Ampeg SVT4 Pro That's what I currently use - but I haven't played steadily in a couple of years. This was just delivered on Wednesday. Yamaha APX500III thinline. Action was way high, like they generally are if you buy them online and they haven't been set up. Sanded 1/16" off the bridge saddle and then adjusted the relief, and installed Ernie Ball Earthwood Rock and Blues strings on it, now it plays great. My arthritic fingers are sore from all the sanding though. This is a quality guitar, amazing what you can get for $300 these days. The pickup/preamp sounds really great.

Literally everyone who buys Yamaha brings down the bridge. Why they don't bring it down themselves is beyond me. But at least you get to adjust to your liking.
Nice guitar Splat. How does it sound through an amp? |
