Well I had a life or death experience this AM

At least it felt like one! As some of you might already know I own an armored car service, and I drive one of the trucks myself. Had a co-worker/employee call in sick today (always 2 guys on a truck) and I just so happened to be using our oldest truck which is now just a backup.

To make a long story short, I went to the back of the truck (closed off from the front) to get some change, when I realized the boxes had slid up towards the front. So, I climb into the truck to grab it and the door shuts. No big deal right, I can just open it from the inside? Wrong. Like I said this is our oldest truck and I just found out the hard way that you can't get out from the inside. Another problem is my phone was in the front of the truck which I didn't have access to. So there I was locked inside in the pitch black wth no phone, no AC (I live in Key West where it's really ****ing hot!!). I had to bang on the door till somebody finally heard me and I told them to call the police/fire department to get me out.

I waited all together about an hour and a half till they finally broke into the front of the truck to get the key out of the ignition and let me out the back. This was difficult and something I wasn't even sure they could pull off so (relatively) fast with this being an armored vehicle.

If I would've been at one of my stops where there isn't a lot of people walking by, I could've easily cooked in there all day.

I'm glad you're okay. That would have been one of the worst ways to go.

Glad you made it out alright. I guess you won't that mistake again? Plus, I'd think your company would have stricktest procedures to make sure an employee can't do this? I dunno, but maybe newer rigs have a keypad or something in the back where you can enter a code which will send a call to someone to come and get you out, or something like that?

Thanks man. The only reason this was an issue was because I just so happened to be using an old backup truck (that I'm not familiar with to know you can't get out from the inside), and I had an employee call in sick, so I was alone. Those two things happen very rarely, and they just so happened to occur on the same day this all goes down. I definitely have a few simple options to prevent this from ever happening again now that I know this is possible. It will never be an issue again, but it was a really shitty way to learn that lesson.

The funny thing is, with all the abuse & insults, mother, etc. The only thing that ticked him off was an insult to his football takes.

Now I wonder how many dead hobos are locked inside old armored cars in salvage yards.
