Waterproofing A Fence Question
Hello, I'm Donger.
I used a "power washer" last weekend to clean my fence, and I was hoping on taking the time today to apply Thompson'sŪ WaterSealŪ Waterproofer Plus Clear Wood Protector to the fence. However, reading the instructions, it states: "Be sure that both surface and air temperature are above 50° F during application and for 48 hours after application" The weather forecast for my city shows that it will get down to 41° F tonight and 37° F tomorrow night. So, I wondering if I should do what I intended or wait until the overnight temperatures comply with the above? If I ignore the temperature recommendations and apply the Thompson'sŪ WaterSealŪ Waterproofer Plus Clear Wood Protector today, what would the repercussion(s) be? Thanks. |

You should start by returning Thompson's and buying a better product.

I've actually used diesel fuel to treat a couple of fences that I've put up. It works great and it was much cheaper than using Thompsons. I just put it in a garden sprayer and it worked like a charm. It killed the grass right under the fence line which made it easier for weedeating, too.

Ditto. Can't remember the name, do some research. Thompsons way over priced and not that good.

Never heard anyone say a good thing about Thompson's.
If you aren't overly concerned with the budget, Sikkens makes tremendous stains and sealers.

Take the Thompson's back and get Cabot's transparent deck stain. Thompson's sucks and doesn't last a year.

Wait until it gets warmer. I believe the temp affects how the sealer cures and how deep it penetrates into the wood. Might still look the same, but probably won't last as long as it should.
