Terrelle Pryor working out today for Chiefs

@ProFootballTalk: Terrelle Pryor is working out for the Chiefs today as a QB only, per league source.

This is an unusual move. I can't think of a team in recent history that had five QB's on their roster in January. IMO, it's indicative of upcoming change and not the kind of change that will make a difference in the long run.

That's a pretty big leap. Why have five QB's on the roster when the off-season workout programs don't begin for four more months?

Because one or two of that five won't be on the roster come OTAs.

Then why not cut them now?

There's nothing that a QB can do between now and April 10th (at the earliest) with the club. No workouts, no OTA's, no mini-camps, nothing. The clubs can't oversee them or have contact with them due to the new CBA.

Why would a club sign a QB today with plans to cut him before ever seeing him in the system? Unless, again, they're unhappy with Bray/Murray and will cut one or both shortly.

I can't either. It's odd. But it's not prohibitive of any bigger moves. The "bigger move" that actually happens is most likely going to be the cutting of Chase Daniel. That feels minimally important.

I think it makes chase more trade bait ...to say AZ for a particular WR? Or any other QB starved franchises (Bills, Browns, Bucs, Vikings, Texans)

Everything in Reid and Dorsey's history says they have no problem throwing arms at the QB position. I wouldn't be surprised if they drafted another QB if they find a guy they like, or at least be open to the idea. It won't be a first round pick but I bet they're still scouting QBs.

So then, what do you do with six QB's at the first minicamp or OTA? Or five, for that matter?

For the record, I'm not trying to be argumentative.

I just think it's an odd situation and maybe there's something that eluding my thought process.

Let them fight to the death. I don't think it's that big of a deal. Somebody was likely getting cut anyway.

Well, the only thing is that teams carry, at most, four into minicamps and OTA's because there's only so many reps to go around. If this was training camp and a guy had a short term or long term injury, I'd get it.

But per the new CBA and limited offseason workouts, it's not making much sense to me to spread out reps to five and especially six QB's.

IMO, Alex Smith will need all the reps he can get and then some.

At least Pryor has won an NFL game.

Bray hasn't done shit in the NFL.

Bray is awful. He's like a pitcher that can throw 100 mph but has no control and no grasp of the game.

Basically.

A QB-starved fanbase will fall in love with the idea of any guy with a big arm though.

I'd guess either Bray or Murray is out based on something they did or didn't do during the season.

My uneducated guess would be that Bray didn't progress again, at all, even though he was paid while being stashed on IR.

We should know the real deal soon enough, I suppose.
