Jenkins to IR, Avant signed, offense should be better.

Im pretty happy about this. Jenkins offered nothing aside from a would-be big play that ended with him surrendering a sure TD by running out of bounds of his own volition.

Avant knows the offense, and moreover, is pretty damned sure handed. Id really like to see what the details of his signing are, but I have to believe that this just made the offense better. Hell, he cant be any worse than AJ Jenkins at worst.

It would be great to have another receiver out on the field that could compliment Bowe, and perhaps even take some of the attention off of him. He should fit right into this offense and hopefully be able to contribute against the Broncos.

If anything it will be refreshing to see a WR that actually catches passes that Alex puts right on him.

You need a solid catch percentage as a WR. You can't have Davone Bess games. But that's it. 85-95% is what's expected, and I'm guessing here, but probably 90% of the WRs in the NFL fall within that acceptable range. Obviously if you're catching 85% of your passes, you want to bring that up, but if you're a GOOD WR, those drops won't matter because you should be able to come back the next drive and make up for that dropped pass.

Yeah, it ****ing sucks when WRs drop passes. It also ****ing sucks when OL guys miss blocks, or when DBs don't get prime position on their receivers in downfield coverage. Or when QBs miss wide open guys downfield (cough Alex cough).

It's a part of the game of football. If you're a good player, you make up for those mistakes by doing things that normal players at your position can not do. Alex does it with smart decision making, buying time when outside the pocket, and scrambling. Bowe does it by achieving the best position possible on his slants and making catches in traffic. Poe does it by raping people.

Hemingway, Hammond, and Jenkins do it by... wait, they don't.

THAT'S why they suck. Not because among the three of them they have 3 ****ing drops on the season.

Good Christ.

Your contention is that Jason Avant will not help this football team. His ability to catch the football worlds better than those guys is irrelevant, and therefore his production will be equal to that of Jenkins, Hemingway, and Hammond.

Based on what?

I wonder how many drugs it takes to equal a ticket to the ****ing world you live in. You are seriously ate up with the dumbass dude.

I'm not over-reacting to this signing but everything behind Bowe sucks and Avery isn't physically dependable.

If Avant is a "possession receiver" that's pretty cool with me, there are plent of 3rd and 5 that would be nice to have someone who could catch th damn ball and extend say....a game winning drive versus an 0-10 team.

Because they suck at beating their coverages consistently and seem to always **** up their routes. I wouldn't throw to them either if I were Smith. If I don't know where the ****ing WR is going to be in the time it takes to throw in his direction, why the hell would I throw it at them?

I'm not saying Avant won't help this team. I'm saying he COULD help this team, BUT ONLY IF his route running is solid and he demonstrates the ability to become an appetizing target for a QB to throw to like he was in Philly under Reid. The past two seasons he hasn't been that guy. At all.

If he's a clueless ****tard out there like Frankie Hammond, or his speed has diminished so much that it's reached Bobby Sippio-level slow, Alex won't throw him the ball. Plain and simple. And then if that's the case, I don't ****ing care if he wears a suit of magnets and coats the interior of the football with an iron filament. His "good hands" won't mean diddle **** squat.

Throwing Bowe in this conversation is stupid. Agree with you there.

If we're talking about 3rd and 5... Hammond and Jenkins are probably not in your sights unless you're looking to surprise by going deep. If Bowe is covered and you're Smith, would you rather just stare at Bowe for a few more seconds? How many options in your progression until you even look Hemingway's way? That's where the trust comes in. I'm sure he'd love to have a slot receiver who was actually a legit check down especially knowing how conservative he is.

We'll have to keep tabs on this. I doubt the passing game looks any different/improved in the last 5.

That depends on if Avery comes back. He helps the passing game quite a bit. Not because he's great. Because there isn't an option like him in the mix right now.

Receivers aren't always open in a timing offense like the WCO. That's why things like anticipation, accuracy and touch are a premium in the system. IMO Alex Smith played the best football of his career in the second half of last year and I want to see more of that.

We need him at his very best for the next 8 games.

You mentioned McCluster earlier. I've agreed with you many times on McCluster's usefulness as that possession guy in 2013 for Alex Smith.

What Wallcrawler seems to be jacking off to is that McCluster had great hands, as if that's THE #1 paramount skill to becoming a great WR.

Smith threw to McCluster because McCluster got open on his cross routes from the slot. If McCluster doesn't find the sweet spot in the defense and run to it like the play was drawn up, Smith wouldn't have thrown to him as often as he did on 3rd down and in pressure situations.

You know that. But Wallcrawler apparently thinks Smith went to McCluster in those situations last year because he was confident that Dex would catch it cleanly.

There have been several drives killed on offense by dumbasses not catching footballs that should have been caught. This includes Bowe, Kelce, and the rest of the shit squad.

Having a solid, possession receiver that can work out of the slot and bring you high percentage completetions on a 3rd and 6-7 will be a Godsend for Smith and the passing game.

Nobody is saying this dude is gonna light people up and blow people's doors off. He's going to be the guy who extends a couple drives a game with huge catches for first downs that former Practice Squad POS Frankie Hammond, Future Practice Squad POS Junior Hemingway, and Future Ex-Chief AJ Jenkins cant seem to handle the complexities of.

The ability to play a contested pass and come down with it is going to be huge. Look no further than Smith's 3 INT day against the Titans, throwing to a guy that didn't have that particular talent, Donnie Avery. Avery has NO fight in him. Hes a dude that can run by you and you throw it so far out front he can either run under and catch, or its incomplete. That's Donnie Avery.

With guys like Bowe and Kelce garnering much of the attention, Avant should be able to be a bigtime security blanket for Alex Smith working out of the slot on those slant and drag routes we run so much.

I think that Bowe, Avant and Avery are a set of wideouts that can help keep the chains moving while Charles and Davis do the dirty work to force defenses to overcompensate to stop our short passing game.

I was going to post this...Avery/Avant would be a juxtaposition for this offense. One is a burner..and one underneath.

First off, enough with the jacking off shit. I don't know if you like to picture dudes handling their business or what, but the shit is getting old.

Next, I never ****ing mentioned McCluster. Try to keep up with the ****ing thread subject. McCluster is not it. Jesus.

And Third, if you cant ****ing catch, why are you a receiver. Get open, drop the ball. Real ****ing productive. Christ, do I need to draw this in crayon?

Oh, here's McCluster's "great hands" in action.
