*** Official 2017 Royals Offseason Repository ***

The reign is over. Time to begin the quest for the next one.

Interesting offseason opens for the Royals. Will they go all in for one last shot with this crew? Will they re-tool for 2018 and beyond? Will Dayton Moore actually decrease payroll this time?

Trades, free agent signings, rumors, plans, proposals... dump 'em all here, for this is... the offseason repository!

Royals Top Prospects, 2017

This is a list that’s going to seem a little bleak initially, as Raul Mondesi got enough ABs to age out of the prospect rankings (just barely – at 135 ABs, he is not rookie eligible). But that said, I like the talent and feel like this is a system that will actually be underrated by the prospect services.

Spoiler!

I wonder if Moss to RF and a platoon DH with Soler and Obrien might happen.

Sample size is small, because I've seen very few at-bats of Royals spring training. But there's just no confidence whatsoever in this guy. He looks like he's just guessing on every freakin pitch. His strikeouts aren't hard-fought or spectacular in his aggressive swinging. They're short at-bats. And just pitiful.

Does Soler have options? Can he be sent to Omaha. The way O'Brien is hitting the ball (and Soler sucking), would the Royals consider O'Brien as the starting right fielder?

On another issue, I have to disagree with Duncan on Colon not making the team. For him NOT to make the 25 man roster, he'd have to be traded or released. Since Merrifield has options and Colon has better spring training numbers, I can't see them just letting Colon go.

I'm not sure about Soler having options, but O'Brien is pretty awful defensively from what I've heard. You could put Moss in RF (not ideal, but much better than O)and have O'Brien DH part of the time, though.

Merrifield not making the team would be a pretty big surprise, being that he is a super utility guy that can play infield and some outfield. The Royals are probably only carrying 3-4 true outfielders (Gordon, Cain, Orlando, Soler?).

It really all comes down to Mondesi. If Royals decide to keep him up, they probably put Colon on waivers. If they elect to keep him in AAA to start the year, Colon probably makes the team . . . . . for now.

I don't know whether Soler has options or not, but he looks lost at the plate right now. I don't know whether the Royals offense is strong enough yet to consider carrying his liability of a bat in the lineup till he 'figures it out'.

It'll be interesting to see what they do . . . . .

Based on this link, Soler does have options. Don't know if the Royals would be willing to fess up to "we gave up Wade Davis for this"?

http://www.royalsreview.com/2017/3/1...-are-out-of-em

Last year was Merrifield's rookie year and he got sent down when his bat went to crap. I don't see it as a stretch for him to start the season in AAA. To me, it'd be better than getting nothing for Colon.

On a different note: Wood and Young have outperformed Karns in training camp.

I just think the 'super-utility' appeal of Merrifield is going to be too much for Ned to pass up. I like Colon, but he does not offer this team a lot being that he can't play great D and his bat is really inconsistent, in addition to not offering any real 'pop'.

Karns had actually looked pretty good this spring till his last start. It'll be interesting to see how he bounces back in his next one.

If Mondesi forces his way onto the roster you could Option Soler down and let Merrifield/Moss/Orlando platoon in RF and use Cuthbert at DH. I'm like the rest of you though, Soler will start in KC and probably have a fairly long leash.

I've always thought of Colon as a plus defender at second.
