QB's to watch this year?

Who are the top QB's I need to watch on Saturday with the full understanding there's a <0% chance they'll end up playing football in Kansas City more than once a year?

There is a lot to like about him, but, to tell you the truth, his game reminds me a lot of Ryan Fitzpatrick. And that's not necessarily a bad thing, but it may not be the best thing for a first round pick either.

He's aggressive and confident, but he will just wing it often just to wing it thinking that his arm will beat coverage. And while he has a good arm, it's not a rocket launcher. All of these are very reminiscent of Fitzpatrick's style of play.

And his accuracy numbers are somewhat disconcerting. They should be better. He makes some gorgeous throws and then strings together a couple of real shit bombs.

IMO, the QB that's looked the best this year has been Stanford's Kevin Hogan. His career started slowly, but he's really chucking the rock right now.

I still like Christian Hackenberg from a total tools/talent perspective, but he's going to have to be re-taught the game after being in the wrong system with horrible line and receiver play his entire career. If you could get him as what he was as a freshman, and make the progression, that would be a good thing. But he's regressed, while a guy like Hogan has progressed.

And the guy I most like is Memphis' Paxton Lynch.

I have no idea why he's not getting the hype, but if Memphis wins again on Saturday and he puts up another 300 yard+ game, they'll really start talking about this dude. Huge arm, great vision, good athleticism. Guy is tearing it up right now.

Dorsey has a lot of work to do for the position in this draft.
Credit where it is due, regarding your read of Paxton Lynch. I think he offers perhaps the best combination of skills at the position this year.

Hopefully the Chiefs are picking high enough to nab him. He expresses some of the same qualities I DO like about Goff (size, accuracy, ability to move his feet and make plays by sliding/climbing/moving the pocket) but has an NFL arm to boot (that might even play up a little more to "plus" if he adds some strength).

Yep, Sacc made a good call at the position.

Watched Christian Hackenberg yesterday and felt bad for him. It's really a shit sytem he's in. He's got a lot of tools. You could see it on the field, but everything just broke down around him to the point where he was making bad decisions on the field such as holding onto the ball too long, etc. He got hammered by the Buckeyes defense all game. (Five sacks and numerous hits.) He's going to require a re-work after this experiment gone bad at Penn State. Redshirt junior who I can't see coming back for more of this abuse.
7/13, 120 yards; 1 TD, 0 Int.

Kevin Hogan (Senior) was solid against UCLA on Thursday. Again, his numbers are being held in check by the system as he only passed for 131 yards, but the Cardinals absolutely rolled the #18 ranked UCLA Bruins 56 to 35 backed by a Herculean performance from Christian McCaffery (yep, Ed's boy) who piled up 396 total yards everyway possible. (New Jamaal Charles? Kid is a freak.)
8/15, 131 yards, 3 TD, 1 Int

Paxton Lynch (redshirt Junior) was dominant against a pretty darn good Ole Miss team (ranked #13 going into this game) and showcased his determination to win as it was the fourth time this season that he's carried the Tigers back from a 10 point deficit to win the game. Just owned the Ole Miss defensive backs all game. Dude is absolutely balling right now and refusing to lose.
39/53, 384 yards, 3 TD, 1 Int

Jared Goff (redshirt Junior) doesn't play again until October 22 against a pissed off UCLA team. Last we saw of him, he was throwing five interceptions in a loss to Utah last week.

Connor Cook (Senior), as has been the case all season, looked both great and bad in a Michigan State win on a fumble recovery for a TD on the last play of the game. Some terrific throws mixed in with some really bad decisions and accuracy continues to be an issue.
18/39, 328 yards, 1 TD, 0 Int.

In college? Sure. I can buy that.

Chase Daniel was also a better player than Paxton Lynch in college. Lynch will be a much better pro and actually start dozens of games rather than being a career backup.

Short, athletic, dual-threat spread option guys without big arms are an extreme long shot in the NFL.
