Lmao it is amazing that Pokemon GO is literally getting kids to go outside. This concept of AR should be applied to other games.
It's amazing how far Video Games have come. The old adage "Go outside and play instead of playing games inside" wont be the norm come the future.

Something interesting about this game:
https://www.corbettreport.com/the-ci...riot-act-cant/ "The maker of the app? Niantic Labs. Never heard of them? That’s because until last year they were an internal start-up of none other than Google, the NSA-linked Big Brother company. Even now Google remains one of Niantic’s major backers. Niantic was founded by John Hanke, who also founded Keyhole, Inc., the mapping company which was created with seed money from In-Q-Tel, the CIA’s venture capital arm, and which was eventually rolled into Google Maps. So yes, the Pokémon game currently taking the internet by storm (and scooping up all their data, including activities, movements and communications) was created by a CIA-linked businessman who gestated his company at Google. Feeling safe yet? As it turns out, the big, bad Big Brother Spies of the NSA and the DHS and the CIA don’t really need their Patriot Act powers, after all. All the powers-that-shouldn’t-be need to do is create a fun, shiny trinket for the people to play with and they will literally pay for their own surveillance. Welcome to the “Matrix Economy,” where people pay to spy on themselves…and have fun doing it!"

I've seen people walking around blindly doing this. It's actually funny as hell to watch.

So I'm in Sacramento visiting my sister and my daughter. I tried firing up the app and I was surprised to see how many locations popped up. My daughter told me that several businesses are staying open later because of the increased foot traffic. A lot of them are running specials based on the game.

I think it's pretty cool that groups of people are getting out at night to have some peaceful, playful fun. There are groups of kids (in their 20's-kids to me) that get together after work and walk around doing this. It reminds me of those "take back the night" community events designed to get decent people outside in the evening to push back on the scumbag criminals. The game is goofy as hell but I think it's a positive thing.

My kids were into it. So we've had Pokecrap around the house forever. I found a Pikachu keychain in the original package in my basement months ago that has got to be at least a decade old. Probably supposed to be a stocking stuffer. The only time I ever joined in was to play Pokemon Snap on the N64. I started trying to help my younger ones get good pictures and ended up actually playing it. I'm more interested in the AR concept itself as opposed to VR. There have been plenty of apps that layer stuff on top of pictures. Like make up apps or SnapChat. This is a bit different and if it is taking off it seems like it can only make AR better in the long run. |
