Bernie Ecclestone's mother-in-law 'kidnapped in Rio, with £28m ransom demanded'

The kidnappers of Bernie Ecclestone’s mother-in-law have issued a string of threats since they snatched her off the street near her home .

They ordered Aparecida Schunck’s family to hand over a £28million in sterling – to be placed in four separate plastic bags.

Police confirmed the 67-year-old mum of Formula One boss Ecclestone ’s wife Fabiana Flosi is being held ransom but have issued a local media blackout to try to prevent her from coming to any harm.

Aparecida was snatched near her home in the middle-class Sao Paulo district of Interlagos, which is near the José Carlos Pace Formula One circuit, on Friday night. She has not been heard from since.

The ransom, 120 million reais, is Brazil’s biggest ever demand. The gang behind the abduction is in contact with Ecclestone and his mum-in-law’s family, who have refused to speak publicly as they try to negotiate her release.

Edit: awful just awful - it's a five-second penalty on the Nico -Verstappen incident for competitive overtakes in racing. Nico would have taken second place.

F1 is ruining racing!

Edit: Nico's pace is not good and Daniel moves up to P3 - overtaking Verstappen , on softs moves to P4.

Two Red Bull's ahead of Nico after serving a 5-second penalty changing tires.

Edit: Verstappen into the pits for final tire change, moving back to supersofts.

Third pit stops for Hamilton and Daniel - both on the soft tires. Ham has been perfect throughout the race.

American billionaire John Malone has launched an attempt to buy Formula One, which could cost as much as $8.5 billion.

The 75-year-old’s Liberty Media, which owns a cohort of media, communication, and entertainment businesses, is said to be in talks with Formula One’s parent company Delta Topco.

It is reported that the American investor could buy the global motor sport in stages and initially only purchase a minor stake in the $8.5 billion business.

However, it is believed that Malone has competition, as a number of other wealthy conglomerates are also interested.

Paris Saint Germain’s owners, Qatar Sports Investments, Apple, and broadcaster Sky are also said to be looking into the acquisition

Delta Topco’s current F1 ownership is split between a number of subsidiaries, with a private equity group called CVC possessing around 35 percent of the shares.

Outspoken racing personality Bernie Ecclestone, who is also the chief executive of Formula One, owns around 20 percent of the business.

The owners have made billions of dollars by selling commercial rights to the sport, including sponsorship deals and television rights, as well as collecting venue charges

She was given a ride on a silver plater, I can think of a cotillion of drivers that could fill that seat and do a much better job.
You earn respect Danica, and she hasn't done anything to get it.

bingo - she came into NASCAR with a lot of hype and fanfare and got a ride probably mostly for pormotional purposes, not because she earned it - she should expect a little resentment from the current veterans, and should stop whining and win races
