When a player named Roy Foster was a running back at Shawnee Mission West I knew that game wasn't for me. We couldn't tackle the guy. He was the first freshman OL at USC to start in their history. He went on to play 12 years in the NFL. Yeah, that wasn't for me.

Played WR as a freshman and then DE my sophomore and jr year. Set Missouri's state record in shot put my junior year and knew I could go to any school I wanted in the country, so I didn't play football my senior year. I sometimes wonder what might of happened if I had pursued football instead. ive beaten terron armstead, and threw just as far as Margus hunt, I was just as explosive of an athlete as either one of those guys. Probably wouldn't have mattered anyways as I was kicked off of mizzous track team my sophomore year for being a shithead. Probably would have made the same bad decisions if I had played football, with the same result.

Played until my sophomore year. Weighed 155 lbs. Was a back up backup backup...A-team fodder. After so many years of getting my ass kicked, I decided playing guitar would get me as many if not more girls, and be much less painful.

Loved the game though. Just was not good at it, had no size, strength or ability. Wound up coaching when my son played (he was WAY better than I ever dreamed of being). Turns out, I was a pretty good coach.

Back in ’82, I used to be able to throw a pigskin a quarter mile. Dead serious.

If coach woulda put me in fourth quarter, we would've been state champions. No doubt. No doubt in my mind. You better believe things had been different. I’d have gone pro in a heartbeat. I’d be making millions of dollars and living in a big ol’ mansion somewhere, soaking it up in a hot tub with my soul mate.

Yep!!! But a very long time ago (we didn't use it but the "wing T" was just being discarded) & for a very small H.S. (only 25 or so players on the team from 7th grade up) ... probably the reason I was able to play beginning about my sophomore year ... we played both offense and defense ... played end (both sides of the ball) and when our center went down ... I was the center. My senior year I finished the season weighing 145 and weighted 170 when I graduated. Nope not very good but playing gave me a better understanding of the game.

'Played' 2 years. WR/CB.

Mostly I sucked. If I did make a good play, it was a rare enough occurrence that the coach would congratulate the other 83 on the team and I would end up back on the scout squad.

My crowning achievements were getting behind our best DB in practice and hauling in a 50 yarder for a score...so he had to run laps the rest of the day for letting my slow ass get behind him (seriously, I set him up on that route...**** you, coach); I once made an open field, one on one tackle on a Wendy's High School Heisman finalist (watched his hips and made a legit stick, shoulder into his center and brought him straight down) and recovering a fumble in the end zone during a varsity game for a score...I recovered it because I blew my block and was chasing the backside of the play when our RB got stripped. At least it wasn't my guy that cause the fumble. I also caught a ball in practice where I got hit so hard by the safety coming across the field that practice stopped. He was one of those brick shithouse athletes that couldn't catch a cold so he just ran around like a guided missile and looked for kill shots. He got one that day. I held onto the ball to the amazement of pretty much the entire practice field and I hopped up and made sure I got back to the huddle; I wasn't going to tap out, by God. Fortunately a coach gave me a pat on the back for the catch and pulled me to the sideline so I could sit down before I fell down. Oh, and I caught 50% of our passes over the last few games of my freshman season after our starting JV QB went down. He was the third string HB. I caught 2 balls. It was not a fun end to the year.

Low-lights include coming into practice the next day to find a dry-erase #83 jersey in flames on the board...I knew film review would not be fun that afternoon. I also had a series where the coach realized we'd overloaded the D to the opposite side of me so he had them hurry up and keep audibling the old 'student body left' play to my side. For 6 plays starting at the 10 yard line they mercilessly sent 4 guys around edge and somehow the GD linebackers/DEs never managed to get themselves shifted over to take any pressure off or seal off the edge. 6 plays of absolutely having my shit pushed in as they barreled over my ass. I managed to make a tackle on 2 or 3 of them but about 10 yards downfield and mostly just by falling down and grabbing at a leg. It was the most hopeless feeling in the world.

I had good hands and was a good route runner. I was just slow, small and tentative. It was a bad combination for a WR/DB on a triple option team.

You sound like a more athletic version of me. I was 5'7 135lbs, slow as **** and didn't have a killer mentality as a tackler.

Highlights: lit up our slot WR/punter on crossing bow with a perfect form tackle at full speed while the D-line and LBs watched. Got one pass thrown to me on the second to last play of the year which would have been a catch and gain of 20+ and possibly a TD had I been one half second faster.

Lowlights: knocking a tooth our weightlifting.. 40+ pushups at once for dropping passes running the route tree.. Getting decleated repeatedly as a scout team DT by our pulling RG because someone else on the offensive line kept ****ing up... Got punished for ****ing up a route as a scout team WR by getting put at RB and taking a handoff into the hole where the d-coordinator told the defense where I was going. First time wasn't bad, second time I got a helmet in the stomach, decleated and landed head first, causing me to see everything with a motion blur and the dirt turned a pastel green.

Did you make the 'NFL Films' noise? That sort of 'blouargh' noise that you hear in the trenches during an "NFL Presents" clip? Our coach thought he'd let us know how the other half lives one day when he put all the WRs/TEs on the O-Line and ran a few plays against the #1s on the DE. Definitely a dick move and yes, I made the NFL films noise. I never thought it actually existed until I learned that it's not voluntary - that sound is forcefully extracted from your body.

Oh yeah! I gained 7 yards and picked up a first down on a reverse once. The only reason it didn't go for 30 is because I'm just dog-ass slow. It was wide open in front of me and I just felt like I was running in quick sand as that edge closed up.

It sucks being slow.

Most shittiest day of practice I had was getting blindsided twice my first year(once on scout KO, another on scout O) and also failing to bring down our stud athlete on KO. All in the same practice. After the 2nd blindside on scout O, practice stopped. I was on the ground in pain. I slid my helmet off. Walked off the field never feeling so angry before.

I honestly don't remember what noise I made. I think I had a concussion because I'm pretty sure I remember it being the day of a Halloween dance.. which wouldn't have made sense because our season was well over by that point so for all I know I had a period of time erased from my mind.

Played sophomore through senior year HS, one year college. Turned into too much of a time commitment and I certainly wasn't going to advance, so I hung em' up and focused on college/work. Played Tackle my soph year, and then TE every year after that.
