Maybe some people that she does love have had negative reactions to what she's doing. We don't know that. But that's a risk she was taking. Have you ever had to make a decision that might alienate a lot of your loved ones, but you felt you needed to do it anyways because it's what was right for you at the time? I bet it would be a tough decision to make knowing you might lose those loved ones in the process. We don't know what she's going through on a daily basis, but I bet she's had some terribly rough days due to the process.

I just don't understand how anyone can't see how a major life change of any form takes some courage.

As one who has cancer, I am not offended. I can die even though I am fighting it with all I have. I believe my true battle is not to survive, but to be okay with God's plan for me either way, live or die. That takes faith and strength, but I don't feel any more courageous than I ever was.

This! I always thought that the "courageous" adjective was a bit misplaced. Sure, it's a terrible and unforunate situation but it's not like a cancer patient voluntarily takes on the cancer for some higher purpose. It's just a crappy situation that is forced on an individual and loved ones. Nobody wants that and nobody has any choice in the matter. Maybe "strong" or "tenacious" or "upbeat" or "enthusiastic" might be better descriptions.
