Can we win a Super Bowl with Alex Smith?

Not in 2015, necessarily. Just a general question, really.

I know there is a definite line drawn in the sand on this subject here and I want to know if there is a general consensus one way or the other. I'm kinda on the fence about it...but I'm leaning towards no.

If we get the OL to block as a top ten unit. The receivers grow into a top ten unit and the backs and tight ends are also top ten...paired with the defense being similar to last year (maybe a hair better) is Alex Smith a guy that can help the team win it all?

Of course, this would mean we would get a break here and there in the postseason.

Flacco won a Super Bowl because he can sling that pigskin down the field, son.

Shit, the Ravens had the 17th ranked defense that year.

How do you think Alex would fare with that kind of defense?

Since his rookie season, Flacco has thrown for at least 3600 yards every season.

ALEX SMITH HAS NEVER DONE THAT. NOT ONCE.

Can win a super bowl with Alex Smith? Of course we can.

Can we win a super bowl BECAUSE of Alex Smith? Probably not.

significant difference

And he needs Jamaal to be Jamaal.

Bottom line.
He needs the best team in the league.
I think this WILL BE a top 3 defense
I don't think this will be a top 10 line, but it's possible if the pieces fall into place.
This WR corps will be lucky to be ranked 16th, or average...but by years end can be much more effective than early in the year because of Conley getting acclimated and guys like Wilson, Thomas and Kelce really coming into their own.

Jamaal still had a great average last year, even with a really bad OL and being hurt all year.

I think this team should win a playoff game this year and has a good chance at making it to the AFCCG...but I'm not sure about advancing past that point.

The good news is that we should be in great shape cap wise going forward and will have the ammo next year to improve even more in FA and the draft while not losing crucial pieces...so it's possible we get to the point soon where the team fills your criteria.

They had a lot of injuries if I recall but were a solid D when it counted down the stretch run.

Our defense is built to be flat out nasty the next 5-10 years.

Elite corners
Elite pass rush
Smart players
Elite speed in the back end
Crazy talent up front
Everybody is extremely young

Just a nasty unit.

And gave up 35 points in the divisional round and 31 in the Super Bowl.

No matter. Flacco was there to save them.

The difference between Flacco and Smith is risk.
Flacco isn't a afraid to throw interceptions in pursuit of wins.

Smith will not risk interceptions.

It's playing not to lose.

We've seen that song and dance.
