I have no clue how much vehicles should go for, but I love looking at the classics and seeing how high they do wind up going for.

Barrett Jackson is....i've been there....got to go on stage...put a car on the block....I'll say this...if you don't put a reserve on the car, they do not give a **** about you.
The effort they put into selling the car varies largely. They don't give a shit about you, they just care that they get there cut. If the car has a reserve, they go the extra mile to make sure it meets reserve, otherwise they don't get paid. If they know they'll get their cut, they dont give ****s what your car sells for. Never, ever take a car to Barrett Jackson w/o a reserve....and honestly, i would recommend against selling a car at Barrett Jackson in general.

What exactly is a reserve? A minimum price a car has to go for or it doesn't go?
I watch the Gas Monkey show, and that that guy is constantly taking his reserve off mid-auction. |

Also, dont buy off Barrett Jackson unless you ABSOLUTELY know what you're looking at.
There are great deals to be had, i saw a 2014 Maserati go for 35K.... But i also saw some cars that were.....pheeeew....really bad deals for the buyer...clearly instances of people not looking at the details on the cars....sometimes you can be had by a pretty paint job...

Quote:
A reserve is the minimum amount the bidders must meet in order for the car to be purchased. For example, lets say you set the reserve for $250K...the car goes on the block and they start the bid at 20K, and it stops at $150K.....at that point, the auction is over, the reserve wasn't met, the car isn't sold. So the guy that thought he won the auction at $150K....nope....sorry, all for not because you didn't meet the reserve.

If the car doesn't meet the reserve....then it's not sold....therefore Barrett Jackson doesn't get paid.
So when a car is reserved, they'll go all out to make sure it sells....if a car isn't reserved, they put in very little effort to promote the car because they'll get their cut regardless. Pretty shitty imo...but w/e.

And also, you have to pay them 10K upfront to put a reserve on it....

The seller shoulda had a reserve on it. Complete highway robbery.
I learned a lot when i was there. Barrett Jackson has their own bidders that buy cars for Barrett Jackson to later re-sell. Some of these bidders are there so often that the auctioneer knows them by name. It's rumored that they'll purposely down play non-reserved cars, send their auctioneers in to sweep them up and sell them themselves at a later event at much higher prices. I wouldn't be surprised if that's what happened to those Pace cars.

Overall, i left Barrett Jackson feeling like it's hella shady....i mean, you see sellers leave PISSSED.
And it's VERY VERY obvious that each auction is not treated equally. There's a very clear bias towards reserved cars and cars with reputable names behind them. I remember watching a non-reserved car go up on stage and they just ran through it, very limited description of the vehicle, it goes on stage and then quickly goes right off. While reserved cars, they'll literally stop the bids mid auction, bring their "experts" on stage to talk the car up, and then restart the bidding.
