PFT: Chargers will work out Mariota

On my phone, so no link. Suck it.

Will they really trade Rivers? I know there's been speculation.

Discus.

I've heard that too, but i think it's people assuming he'd be OK with TENN because it's a state close to his home state.

But when you consider the reasons why he doesn't want to move, i don't think it has anything to do with L.A, imo. It sounds like he simply doesn't want to move his family out of the community.

He's a real Christian who likes his Church, home and community and i don't think he wants to change that, for the sake of his Child Army.

Rivers did grow up less than 2 hours away from Nashville and Whisenhunt was his offensive coordinator so there is some history.

Whiz was only with him for a year though. It's not like it was a Norv Turner type relationship.

It's just my opinion, but when you consider who he is as a man, his faith, the importance he puts on family values, the fact that he's already made his 100mill in the NFL and the words he used when describing how he felt about moving to L.A, i get the impression that he doesn't want to move his family out of his community.

Rivers is a true franchise QB and I'll be very happy to watch him leave the AFCW. That being said, a fair trade would be Rivers for the #2, straight up. Rivers is 34 so he's got at least a few more good years left in him. No way does Mariota come in and turn the TN team into a playoff contender like Rivers would.

Chargers could send Rivers, #17 and a 2016 R2 and that should do the trick for moving up 15 spots. The 'value' of that pick is 2600 points, #17 is like 950... wildcard is how do they value Rivers at 33 years old?

It's not impossible, but if they really want Mariota and move on... with the other teams, it could cost them a lot more. Just not sure if its worth it.
I don't think the chargers want Mariota. But I do think TN wants Rivers.

He also is going to require a large contract extension. Rivers alone isn't getting the 2nd overall pick I doubt

This. They get thrown into the fire to some of the worst teams in the league. Why should anyone be surprised that so many of them bust? I've long believed the best thing a team could do with their brand new 1st round QB is red shirt him at least a year. Let him learn the system and have another draft to maneuver and put some pieces around him.

The Chargers will play in SD 2015. 2016 is 50/50 SD or LA. The Chargers could franchise him. Do you think he is going to retire and turn down over $15m a year? It's not like they are moving to Phil, Detroit or Buffalo. It is a short plane ride down the coast for 4-5 months a year.

He has not stated that he will retire or even wants a trade. I heard an Antonio Gates interview recently he he said that this was all media speculation.

Where there's smoke there's fire. Rivers has not yet been extended by SD, why? Rivers likes McCoy and has thrived under McCoy yet he's in his final year of his contract. I personally believe that Rivers is going to be traded and the team that makes the most sense is TN. TN has wanted a true franchise QB for a long, long time. Locker just retired and he was not any good anyway.

My only question is if the Titans and Chargers make a trade, will SD take Mariota with the #2 pick? I seriously doubt it. I think the Chargers will see what they have in Brad Sorensen and then they will draft another QB in 2016 if they don't think Sorensen will pan out.

Brad Sorensen?!? The Chargers picked him in the 7th round in 2013 and cut him. He was picked up by the Tits then cut again and signed to the Chargers practice squad.

I doubt the Chargers have any confidence in Sorensen other than running the PS.

The fact that Gates says this is all BS proves it is. He doesn't mince words when it comes to rumors.
