You think that one of the better QB in the league and the 17th pick is not enough to get Mariota? I would think the Titans would jump at the chance to get a legit QB and still have a 1st round pick.

Rivers and 17 might do it, but rivers also needs a contract extension and is 33 years old

If they trade Rivers, the team getting him will want a new deal (5 years likely) in place before any triggers are pulled.
Chargers could send Rivers, #17 and a 2016 R2 and that should do the trick for moving up 15 spots. The 'value' of that pick is 2600 points, #17 is like 950... wildcard is how do they value Rivers at 33 years old? It's not impossible, but if they really want Mariota and move on... with the other teams, it could cost them a lot more. Just not sure if its worth it.

win/win for both teams IF Mariota works out
Chargers get huge cap relief and retool with a new QB Titan finally get a proven QB to instill confidence to the entire team of course if Mariota sucks then the Chargers are screwed If Rivers won't sign an extension then the titans are screwed

Normally I think it would be fine....but he's 33 and needs a new contract. Plus they Chargers will have to up their offer once the Browns get into a bidding war with them. And you can never count out Kelly and the Eagles as well.

Who knows if Mariota will work out or not, but ... what's the risk? The contract for the #2 pick for the next 4-5 years would be pretty ideal. 4 years, maybe 22M? Pretty low risk, you'll pay a lot more for Rivers the next 4 years and may not get any better. Start over.

Mariota won't be ready this year, imo. Maybe I've just become jaded with these college QB's that put up insane numbers in school playing in those spread option offenses. One, maybe two reads, then run. Look no further than Manziel for proof (clearly Mariota is a highly quality person than Johnny Drinky and is clearly committed to his craft. Their results on the field is where the comparison stops with those two), or even RGIII.
TL;DR - The Chargers would be dumb to trade Rivers for the chance at Mariota, imo. Rivers could be a fringe HoF'er if he ever gets to the Super Bowl. |

A lot of talk of San Diego and Philadelphia moving up for Mariota. How likely is New Orleans to do something similar? Maybe package Brees and a pick or two..

I dont think teams are going to have to move up too much to get Marriota. Pundits are just selling a story line.
I think Marriota slips into the teens, hence the reason why teams like SD and Philly are so interested in him. Move up to #2 for Marriota? Doubt it? Move up into the 12-15 range for him? I can see that happening.

I also don't think Rivers gets traded. IMO, he retires. From what ive gathered, he has his home in San Diego with his platoon of children and has no interest in moving them or changing the lifestyle he built in SD.

If they are serious about moving to Los Angeles, I don't see Mariota as a marketable QB for either them or the Rams. He is a quiet leader type that doesn't want the spotlight. Perfect for San Diego or Nashville. Not the type for LA IMO.

I've heard (could be bullshit) that he'd go to a southern state and would like to get out of SD before they move to LA. I've heard that he refuses to move to LA under any circumstances. He'll be in Wrangler commercials after he sends out some cock pics and retires.
