Transitions lenses

Do you have them? Did you like them? Did you feel it was worth the extra expense?

I'm going in for new eyeglasses this week and am taking the plunge into high end progressives. I already know I'm going with crizal for my scratch and antiglare coating. Just can't decide if the transitions is worth it or not for one extra added convenience.

I like mine. The one thing I don't like is that they don't get dark in the car. The windows block UV, preventing them from darkening.

Ditto.

To solve this, I have clip on sunglasses which attach to my regular glasses, which I keep in the car.

Unless I'm asleep, I'm wearing my glasses, so it's the full boat for me. Throw every advantage I can onto them, and just suck it up and pay it.

I usually wear contacts, but I have Transitions on my glasses. Overall, I am pleased, but they don't get dark enough when driving. One thing I'll say is that Crizal is a waste of money. My wife, uncle, and I each got it, and none of us would ever get it again.

Crizal provided little noticeable benefit, and it makes them next to impossible to keep clean.

Transitions aren't supposed to get dark in the car because your windows block out the UV light. They make a new transitions now that does get dark in the car.

As far as Crizal, I've been told by several people its much easier to keep clean than standard anti reflective coatings. So you are saying its just as much a pain in the ass even for crizal?

Crizal = same PITA factor with name recognition (you're just paying a premium for it)

Hmmm didn't expect that. I hate cleaning anti reflectives but they are too effective at killing reflections to leave them off.

That was the one thing I wondered about. They say that the transition indoors only takes a couple minutes but I was at my fathers today and his took a good 5 minutes. But they are a year old too.

One thing I want from my glasses is to see them last for at least 4-5 years. I do wonder if the coatings will last that long. These are going to be varilux progressives because the standard progessives I have tried suck ass.

Agree with the car thing.

But also wore mine snow skiing. They were so dark on an overcast day I could not see moguls. Skiing by braille the whole time.
