I think both Moose and Hos are going to get paid... but the better this Royals team does, the better chance we probably have. If nothing else, a playoff run makes this team more money. But it'd also give them more incentive to stay as long as the contract offer is competitive. They want to be paid, but I'm sure they also want to play for a winner. Both Moose and Hos have a chance to be gods in Kansas City forever. Not many players have that opportunity.

For sure. If they both re-up, you can start building their statues now.

Not sure why people don't think Yu Darvish is a big get. He is fantastic. Yes, I know he let up 10 ER his last start. So what? Dude plays in a hitters park, in the AL, and has a 3.4 era in 782 IP. It would almost be a death blow if Cleveland got him.

Given the recent deals for top relievers, that would seem to be a cellar level return for a guy like Wilson having his kind of year with 1 more year on his contract.

These rumored deals are coming from Detroit press. Smells more like they are using to Cubs offer to get something better from someone else.

Nobody(at least not from what I'm seeing)is saying he's a bum. Just that's he's not a "OMG it's Yu Darvish". I don't think he's anymore a death blow than Sonny Gray or any of the other available starting pitchers(I do think Darvish is better than SG). I think Darvish is on that 2nd "ace" tier, kind like Danny Duffy. You'd feel good about when he starts but it doesn't go into the win column the day before he pitches like it does with Kershaw, Scherzer, etc. He wouldn't even be the 1 on the Indians.

I don't want to edit my post again but I should make clear that when I say any of the other pitchers available, I mean in that group(Darvish, Gray, Verlander, etc.). Clearly Darvish is a bigger get than the Dan Straily's of the world.

I would make that deal in a ****ing nano second from the Cubs perspective. I just dont buy that the Dodgers or Astros would offer just a tick more.
Yep. Really didn't think the Cubs would be able to pull something off that just fills their holes, thought they were going to have to take on one of Detroits huge contracts like Verlander. Who btw I'd rater have in the rotation than John Lackey

I would feel more confident about Moose/Hos if their agent wasn't Boras. That guys is a tool.

I wouldn't.

If the Cubs are to make the playoffs John Lackey wont be a factor. He's gone after this season as well. Taking on a past his prime but prime contract in Verlander would limit a lot of what the Cubs will be able to do with contracts like Arrieta and Lackey falling off the books, namely going after Yu Darvish or even extending Arrieta who I would rather have than Verlander and he would likely be cheaper, in terms of AAV, given the question marks over the last 1 1/2 seasons. I really cant see Jake getting more than Strasburg just got. I would be surprised if anyone offered him close to 7 years at this point but he has been really good recently. If he puts up ace like numbers the rest of the 2nd half that could change but he's going to have to show he can make it through a comfortable 6 innings. He tends to hit a ****ing wall right around the 5th inning.

At what what point would you want the Royals to tap the brakes? Or are you Championship or bust?

Championship or bust. Windows close in a hurry and as of right now we could be losing some critical pieces next year. This might be our last best shot for many years so go for broke while still competitive.
