This looks like it belongs on Syfy. HARD PASS.

And this is coming from someone who plays WoW every day still.

I read a Warcraft trilogy back when I was in high school. One of the books focused on Thrall. I remember his master mistreating him, the girl helping him escape (and subsequently being killed by the master), and I remember Grom Hellscream and Orgrim Doomhammer because they're awesome ****ing names.

I want to say Thrall found a clan and became a shaman or some shit. He was a beast in battle, he could read, he was compassionate, and he practiced magic.

He was basically the perfect Orc.

There's no way in the world I'd see this if Duncan Jones wasn't directing. I feel kind of silly even watching the trailers.

Wonder how long before the Whorecraft parody porn hits the net?

I gotta admit, as a Warcraft fan i'm skeptical about this movie. I just hope it does well enough that i can see some of my favorite story lines in sequels.

The Arthas storyline would make for a cool movie.

I'd like a look inside Paula Patton.

Oh wait, was that out loud?

The user score is doing well. The movie is probably really confusing to those that arent familiar with the lore.

It's getting bad reviews from the 'pros' in the U.S., but it raked in the cash in China.

“Warcraft” feasted on a record $90 million in its first two days in China, including the highest Thursday box office of all time in the country, with an estimated $46 million.

From my understanding, they cut an hour out of this movie. Those final cuts created a confusing first 30minutes or so for non warcraft fans, as it takes you to many places and introduces you to a lot of characters very quickly. A lot of the scenes that helped to develop these characters and settings were essentially stripped from the movie. Once it settles in, it gets good.

Hopefully we get a directors cut.

I watched the premier last night. I'll try to tackle this without my fanboy glasses on.

It's not on the level of LoTR, but i wasn't expecting it to be. If you're expecting LoTR, you'll be disappointed.

Negatives:

1. Acting is shaky at times, especially when it's humans interacting with humans. The acting, imo, is by far the movie's biggest downfall. There were times where it felt Syfy channel quality, and other times where the acting was fine. Consistency was the issue here.

2. The pacing at the start of the movie is off. The movie gets better as it goes on though. The last 30-45minutes save this film.

3. The human wardrobe was syfy channel quality at times. Sometimes it was really cool. Again, consistency.

4. The dialogue from the actors was low quality.

The issues with the real life human actors doesn't allow you to really engage yourself in the world. When we watch the humans, consistency issues plagued the movie.

Pros:

1. The Orcs were amazing. The facial gestures made them feel like real creatures. The CGI done on the orcs was absolutely state of the art. The Orcs felt like far better actors than the humans.

2. While the human wardrobe at times looked cheap, the Orc wardrobe was ****ing awesome. Skulls, bones, big axes, wolf hides....they looked like a bunch of badass mofos.

3. Surprisingly, i actually had en emotional reaction to this film. Critics claim that you don't really feel for the characters, and i COMPLETELY disagree. The characters that died, why they died, and HOW they died allowed for an emotional connection.

4. For Warcraft fans, the movie re-created the world perfectly. To a T. Many fans of the game will recognize iconic structures like Stormwind, Blackrock Mountain, deadwind pass and Karazhan.

5. Gul'dan was hard as ****. They did an outstanding job with him....all the Orcs to be honest. The Orcs were easily the highlights of this film.

6. The fight scenes were good, but not because they were well choreographed, they were good because you could feel and see the sheer strength and size of the orcs. When they crushed a human skull, you felt it.

Summary:

It's not for everyone. The dialogue is generic, the acting is inconsistent, sometimes the wardrobe looked like it was bought from the Halloween superstore. Sometimes the acting was good, and the armor looked cool. This movie felt like a very, very ambitious project that just didn't have enough money. Some elements were very high quality and clearly expensive to produce, and some elements were cheap and flimsy. All the money was spent on the orcs, magic, and creating the world, and much less time & money were spent on dialogue, script, the actors and their wardrobe.

If you're a fan of the Warcraft franchise, you'll enjoy it. If you're not a fan of Warcraft, you may find it to be cheesy. If you're not a fan of high fantasy, then just stay away. If you like movies like Transformers, Ninja Turtles etc, you'll probably enjoy this movie.
