Maclin is great. I'm glad we signed him. But we can't afford another one.

There's all of this quibbling about spending too much money on defense. "If we pay Howard, then we're spending too much on the DL, blah blah blah."

Kearse is going to be searching for a larger payday than we're going to want to give him. He'll be looking for something that a 900-1000 yard receiver would be getting.

With Maclin cracking 1000 yards as the #1, and considering that is the first time a single receiver has ever caught at least 1000 receiving yards from Alex Smith, it's just not worth it to pursue a WR2 in free agency unless you want another cheap-as-beans Donnie Avery that everybody will hate.

Draft another WR. Do your ****ing homework, Dorsey, and draft us a good corps of WRs. ****, even the Jacksonville Jaguars are having success at it. It's not ****ing hard. Just ****ing do it.

you could probably get him for 3.5-4 million. We gave that to Donnie Avery and he was a turd.

The problem at WR is that aside from Maclin and apart from what Avant is, everyone else is young, unproven, or just mysterious as to whether they will step it up or simply are what they are... which is bleh as starters.

So as is, plus adding a rd 1-3 rookie or 2nd/3rd tier vet in FA? That's all well and good... but if Maclin loses time again? KC could be just as screwed at WR.

Maclin missed a game with a concussion and wasn't at 100% during the playoffs. We need someone that can possibly pass for a #1 in games where the #1 isn't in.

I love Conley and think that his potential is vast. I'd also like to see who Dorsey drafts.

Kearse would definitely be an upgrade, but yeah, at what cost?

Sadly, Emmanuel Sanders would've been perfect for that job.

Of the likely FAs, Travis Benjamin is the guy I see that would be best suited for the job. He's not that big WR that teams are likely to pay as a #1 so he may be a little more affordable. He's quick enough and a solid route-runner with elite YAC skills so he should be great in the scheme. He proved this year that he can hold his own as a #1 if absolutely necessary (though it's not an ideal role for him).

Benjamin is tops among my FA WR candidates by a fair margin. Unfortunately it appears that it's very likely he'll be staying in Cleveland. It's unfortunate as he really is an ideal option; almost Maclin-like in terms of how well he would fit given our needs.

Marvin Jones is probably #2. I'd probably say Rishard Matthews is my #3 and then maybe Hankerson and Sanu.

When that's the list, you're probably well served to look to the draft and hope that the guys you already have take a step forward.

Dorsey helped turn that Green Bay WR corps from Robert Ferguson and a young Donald Driver who didn't know what he was doing to what it is today.

It's astounding to me that the ONLY draft investment we've made at the WR position in three years has been Chris Conley. That's a shortcoming of Dorsey's.

He's identified WR talent in the past. He's found it in all places from the 1st to the 7th. So given we've had WR problems for 3 years, why does he keep insisting on turning to free agency to solve his problems at the position? Just ****ing draft guys.

Spencer Ware may actually be a better pure RB for the kind of change of pace this offense needs. His ability to just beat the shit out of people and force teams to keep more bulk on the field to answer for him allows us to make more space.

With Charles back there, you just put speed everywhere and it'll work itself out. You try to do that with Ware and he'll just run you the !@#$ over. So you put in a LBer or bigger box safety and now we're able to find a little more room in the passing game as well.

If you used Charles on jet-sweep actions and had him running all those plays that Wilson was running....holy ****, how do you deal with that? If he gets the ball, he's in space. If you throw him the ball, he's in space. Lord, think of the WR screens! If you hand it to Ware, Charles is such a threat that he's almost certainly pulled someone out of the middle on the sweep action. It would work, man.

It'll never happen and truthfully maybe it shouldn't, but someone tell me why Charles couldn't be the X receiver in this offense, especially if we increase the amount of jet-sweep actions we run. When Ware needs a break, you just move Charles to the backfield and put Wilson back out there. It would extend Jamaal's career by taken a bunch of hits off his body and I think we'd be a better team for it.

I don't think I'd put him at the X, because of route polishness (seriously, wtf does that word mean) but I'd absolutely put Charles in the DAT role and some WR next year.

^ guess the next question is, how many teams are paying out large $ to more than one WR?

We know Denver throws out big money to their guys Thomas and Sanders. Same for Atlanta with Julio and Roddy. Redskins with Garcon and Desean J. GB with Nelson and Cobb..

For what the Chiefs do.. I don't see them springing for another WR making 6+ mil per yr. They are likely gearing up for the Kelce contract soon enough.

So, any good #2 types available for 3-5 mil per? Maybe even a vet that has only a few good years left?
