Anyone ever work at Home Depot?

Starting first night shift in about an hour or so, freight team.

Really nervous, anyone ever work there or still do? It's only part time and just to get some $ on the side.

In 1986 Tommy Lee Jones made a movie called The Park is Mine. It shows you exactly how to take over that course.

it's been a little under a month and this job straight up sucks.

there was nothing to be nervous about or anything, it's simple and straight forward.

the company however is terrible and management is always blaming you for something you didn't do and on your ass.

the people in charge are on huge ego power trips and for the hours and hard work during the night, it's not worth it at all and takes a toll on your body.

I just wanted some extra money on the side and while I'll probably keep at it for a few more months. It's not rewarding, fulfilling or anything Home Depot promises. truth be told, the company has gone to shit.

I really don't know how some people can still stay there for over 4 plus years.

Shit you want easy money on the side, work fast food.

Less work, listen to the **** nuts drama and make you glad you are not them. Free food. Not as hard on the body.

Now is it the supervisors or upper management in the store? You are in an ideal spot. You do not need the job, you can tell them why they are bad or doing things wrong. If they fire you, oh well. But maybe one of them will listen.

This is really a great thread. 80 posts and about 5% of them are topical. Great sample of why Chiefsplanet kicks ass.

As for the job... you're a disposable employee, and will be treated as such. If you truly don't need the job, consider ****ing around, being lazy and worthless until you get canned. If they aren't going to value you, why bother giving any more than bare minimum?

As for hard work, there are a lot of places out there that will appreciate it to at least a small degree. It's unlikely that any of the McJobs will, and it may be tough to find decent part time jobs. Maybe try a temp service. There are some decent companies out there that use temps to fill seasonal needs.

People stay there because it is the best they can do.

I don't know who's running the KC store anymore, but you could try Cabelas. They (used to anyway) treat their people decent. They have a similar inventory system to HD and I think you can get an employee discount.

Best of luck bud. Dollars are short everywhere.

the supervisor is the main one, the head manager is never around but he seems like a pretty big douche.

the supervisor was pretty good for a few weeks but up until recently, he's been a complete annoyance and literally complains about everything.

nothing is ever good enough and doesn't matter how hard I work or what I do, it's lead to a few verbal disagreements and confrontations because I will not take his shyt.

for the most part, everyone has machines/forklifts, I'm doing everything by hand and lifting some of the heaviest stuff in the store. Doing 2 man jobs by myself with 5 massive skids in the aisle and he's complaining that it took 2 hrs. it's just like **** off man, it's minimum wage. This guy seems to be in his late 20s and thinks he's a big shot around home depot, he's a loser. all he does is walk around on his phone and comment, I don't see him treating anyone else how I'm being treated. Everyone else is working at the same pace but he has an issue with me. It's gotten to the point where I've literally wanted to say **** you and quit. I'm walking on egg shells all the time now and most importantly this last 2 weeks.

It's funny because all the other employees and associates seem to notice that I'm working hard and not just ****ing around in the store. We're all cool, he's just the only one who has an issue with me.

the company is beyond stupid and made me go through 3 months of training for this. Opening boxes and stocking it.... he lost his shit the other day because I accidently opened 3-4 boxes upside down. I told him it's not deliberate and I would tape it up, they make a big deal about everything there. He can act all tough and big in front of me but he gets on his knees for the store manager. it's ****ing pathetic.

there's been verbal altercations too and I even told him ''It doesn't matter how good I do or how hard I work, it's never good enough'' - "I'm working hard man I really don't know what you want me to say" - "I'm doing the best I can right now, I'm working hard, fast and smart but alright''.

every time I've talked back or presented the truth, he doesn't say a word back. He's a straight up pxssy.

A good short read I would recommend to anyone who wishes to be a successful employee as far as advancement is concerned.

"The Habit Of Going The Extra Mile" Napoleon Hill

Another good one that may not directly apply to this OP, but gives you something to think about.

"Who Moved My Cheese" Spencer Johnson

In my opinion, not trying your best because you feel you are underpaid puts you in a bad spot before you even clock in. I have never felt that the world owes me a living or a cushy job.

I had a buddy (still do) who, though very smart, was a total screwup through high school and college. He was constantly high, his mom always did his homework, wrote his papers, etc. Guy now makes a VERY nice.living building airplanes, and contracting for the air force.
I was pissed about it for years. Why did he get all the breaks, when I'm just as smart? My mom doesn't do my homework! Comparing his treatment with mine, in no small way, was a real hindrance to me.
In your writing, you sure compare yourself with others a ton. I wonder if you were able to forget and stop worrying about that angle, if it would help your outlook.

If you want to work that job, show up, work hard and shut your mouth. If you do those things, people take notice and the rest takes care of itself.
If an employee who had been on the job 3 weeks was running his mouth to me as a supervisor, he'd find himself cleaning up every kid vomit and shit splattered outhouse on the lot if not fired. You haven't been there long enough to "have verbal confrontations" with your supervisor. Maybe you think he's a dumbass, but if he's a supervisor he very likely started out scrubbing toilets and opening boxes and stocking shelves.

If everyone esle is always the asshole, well maybe take a walk down the mirror aisle and see if you see any common connections.

This post compels me to ask a couple of questions/

1. How old are you?
2. What is your other job?

You seem to really focus on how others are treated and what others are doing instead of focusing on you. This smacks of somebody who is either really young and just starting in the workforce or somebody who is really immature.
