That depends..........

If I liked them 10 years ago yes, if I thought they were a POS 10 years ago then not so much.

Depends on who it is.

If it's not an actual friend but rather an acquaintance as the OP suggests, not generally. I'm terrible with names, and there's a much better than average chance I won't remember their name or why I know them.

Pretty much this. Being next to Ft. Meade and having served in MI while in the Army I run into a person from the past on occasion. I am horrible with names, but one time I tried to play it off. It went something like this:

Guy: "Mike! Hey man, how have you been?"

Me: "Hey.... man! Not bad, how about you?"

Guy: "Awesome. Hit me up sometime, we'll hang out."

Me: "Ok. How do you spell your last name again?"

Guy: "S-M-I-T-H (while giving me a look that says your an asshole for forgetting my name)."

I just walked away. Pretty embarrassing lol. Worst part is his last name isn't Smith, but I'll be damned if I can remember it. It was something simple though.

Not a bad idea, but it could be bad form since the guy knew my first name

I'm not the best with small talk

Generally speaking, I do think it's kind of exciting running into people you once knew much later on, though..

I'm not big on rehashing the story of my dead psycho... well... at least to people not on the internet. So friendship circa 6 years ago, I wait with resignation for the questions. Anyone since then, it's cool.

Im horrible at small talk. It's difficult for me to fake giving a shit. With that said, yeah, it's usually awkward running into someone from my past, especially when they seem excited to see me.

Oh, and I'm also in that whole "just finished college but have yet to find an adult job so I'm still working in restaurants" phase.

Now the "So what are you doing now?" question is especially annoying to me.
