Covitz:Brandon Flowers calls himself the ‘best corner in football’
Former Chief Brandon Flowers calls himself the ‘best corner in football’
Cornerback Brandon Flowers may have lost his job with the Chiefs, but he didn’t lose his self-confidence. Flowers, who was quickly signed by AFC West rival San Diego last week, 11 days after his release by the Chiefs, blew his horn pretty loudly in an interview with NFL Network last week. Here’s an excerpt from that interview with Flowers, who last year made the first Pro Bowl in his six-year career, though he had been moved from left cornerback to a slot corner early in the season. On who’s the best cornerback in the NFL: “First off, let me must say, I am the best corner in football. Don’t let my injuries last year fool you and take my name from that top list. One guy whose game I definitely respect throughout the years was (Darrelle) Revis. Coming from a system that he played in, it’s a lot of man-to-man being played, him shadowing receivers, and he definitely put in that work. Not to say anything else bad about the other corners, but Revis is definitely a corner I respect in this league.” On how he felt when he was released by the Kansas City Chiefs: “I was very surprised when it happened. I knew I hit the cap pretty hard, but I thought if I was going to get traded or released it was going to be in February or March sometime. The timing that they did it, it kind of hit me. That’s why I stayed in the division. I wanted to let the Chiefs know that’s why they hit me. I want to let them know how I felt about it.” On his familiarity staying within the division affecting his decision: “That made it comfortable. I also respected San Diego playing them throughout the years (and) how they run their organization. I always had respect for their players. It’s always hard fought, tough games when we played San Diego. I always sit on the other opposing side that I would love to play for a guy like Philip Rivers. He’s so fiery. He’s always got that attitude. He’s got that ‘want to.’ You can’t ask for nothing else from your leader. I think it’s the perfect match for me.” On his favorite thing from Kansas City and his favorite teammate: “My favorite thing about Kansas City was the fans. It felt like I never left college playing for Kansas City. No matter if we were winning four games … it was still crazy. You go to the malls, and everyone had on red. It was crazy. The fans were definitely my favorite thing about K.C.” “As far as teammate-wise, Derrick Johnson and Jamaal Charles were both my boys. (I’ve) been teammates with those guys for years. Off the field, we were always together. Those are my two. I can’t pick one over the other.” |

Most shitty players are humble.
There are still plenty of good ones who are humble as well. Jamaal Charles is a great example. You're just not going to find that kind of attitude in CBs, though. You need swag and you need confidence in order to play those positions. It's like playing goalie. If you aren't able to put your shortcomings in the past, you'll second-guess everything you do, which can kill you instantly. |

He was the best corner on the Chiefs team by far. I guess that counts for something...
Or not. |

He'll probably have a better season than any CB on our roster.

They should make one for William Bartee, too. It could be one of those eternal flame things like at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. |
