Welp, first home turf loss in forever, on a complete marking break down during a set play

OTOH, checking out discussions on the game I came across a clip of a fairly famous soccer event that was different than I'd seen before.

Gives you a better idea how 'out of nowhere' it was when it happened.

Putting a link here so I know where to find it in the future.

Weird feelings about the game last night. Once we got out of the 3-5-2 we looked like a different team. Marking has been poor recently on set pieces so that is something to worry about. But I really liked the offense once we changed. Best Altidore and Wood have played off each other, and Pulisic is such a valuable piece. He struggled last night with touches, but he is always in the right spot.

Long-term I will take the look of that second half, save the set piece, over winning and looking like blah. Short-term it sucks losing at home to our biggest rival to start the Hex.

We will be fine.

I was a little concerned that the US struggled to move the ball out of the the defensive end and through the midfield while Mexico was pressing. They've got to beat that pressure like any good squad should. Reliance on the long, over the top ball rather than work the possession meant way too many 50/50 balls off the head and it stymied a lot of possessions.

USMNT down 1 nil to Costa Rica. No surprise there. I don't think we've ever won on their soil.

The centerback, Brooks, was directly responsible for 2 if not 3 of the 4 goals...

On goal 2, the US did their traditional crapping of their pants in midfield and passed it back to brooks who did some sort of jump/scissor kick straight to Costa Rica and the break was on.

Goal 3, Brooks completely misplayed the long ball, got megged and left it 1v1 on the keeper. I cannot recall if this was some sort of dumbass backwards pass by the US or not.

This team has regressed, and sure, they've lost a lot of midfield talent, but this team is horrible. I dont see them qualifying for Russia 2018. Probably not a bad thing. The US youth programs have got to stop teaching 'cannon leg' soccer and teaching a more possession oriented game.

Yeah, it's BAD. Poor Pulisic is the only one that can even attempt to do anything technical. Wood isn't so bad either. But they can't get the ball because it's long ball boot from the D to the forwards every freakin time. WTF happened to Bradley? He used to be pretty good at the pivot.

Brooks was awful. From the very start he got into it with a player and half the US team had to calm him down, which didn't work. He missed several markings even before the first goal. He looked like he mentally was ready to shut down the moment he had an excuse to do so.

US had a good chance to go up 1-0 on Wood's cross right in front of the goal mouth. I actually really liked the US for the first 30 minutes considering the setting. The first two goals were just poor 1-on-1 markings by the defenders.

I can't imagine Klinsmann gets fired in the middle of qualifying. He will get WCQ and then the WC, if that even happens at this point.
