WTF? First why? Then, why didn't CW want it?

Why is Supergirl a CBS and not a CW series, a TV critic asked during CBS’ TCA executive session, which started off with CBS chairman Nina Tassler congratulating sibling CW on its Golden Globe win for Jane The Virgin‘s Gina Rodriguez. Tassler said she’d been a fan of the genre since developing The New Adventures Of Superman while at Warner Bros. TV. “There is a human drama there.” As for Supergirl, it is “a real passion of ours,” Tassler said, noting that the premise “embodies so many of the qualities and characteristics of the classic female heroines on CBS,” making her relatable.

The Supergirl costumes already have been created, now the challenge is to find the right actress to wear them. “We’re looking for quality, looking for charisma,” Tassler said after the session. “We are looking for someone who inhabits the freshness of being a woman in today’s challenging climate, someone who can carry this kind of series on her shoulders.”

Well at least something got renewed, although I'm still pissed they canceled "Agent Carter", which I liked much more than "S.H.I.E.L.D."

The initial version of this article had an extra paragraph, pushing for the return of Tom Wellig to the role. Interesting that it's been excised. To me this means either he has no interest in doing it or they have a great interest in him doing it. He's around 39 so he's a good age for the adult version, and he really hasn't done diddlyshit since "Smallville", and it doesn't sound like it would be a weekly role, so hopefully he does it.

Last I heard Welling was both lead and executive producer for a show cbs was developing called section 13. So I doubt he has time.

Not Tom Welling. CW has given the role to some dude off MTV's Teen Wolf. Tyler Hoechlin.

I would have been surprised if Tom Welling had accepted the role. He seemed to really hate the idea of wearing the Superman suit.

I would think it'll be more of a cameo role, and his career hasn't exactly exploded since "Smallville" ended, so I wouldn't think he'd mind. But to each his own.

His career doesn't need to "explode" because he appeared in 217 episodes of a network TV show that went into syndication in 2011.

He's easily earning $500k per year in SAG royalties, which allows him to pick and choose what he'd like to do next, if anything.

Plus, he's 38 years old whereas Melissa Benoist is 26 years old.

Tyler Hoechlin is 28 years old, which lines up better with SuperGirl.

She's quite a bit younger than superman in the show mythos. He's an adult when he finds her as a girl. Maybe in his 30s. I don't know that they specified his age at the time but he was clearly much older.

Course they can age him or have him only appear in flashbacks.

The Earth Sun's effect would age him slower when he reached physical maturity , if they want to use that plot device it could work
