Renovating a Kitchen. Looking for Advice.

Mrs. Buehler445 and I are buying a different house. It is really what we want in terms of size, layout, neighborhood, etc. The only drawback is there are no upper cabinets in the kitchen...WTF? Anyway, we made the decision to man up and put in a kitchen that we want.

Since I'm a home renovation n00b, I'd appreciate any advice, tips, or experiences the CP braintrust can provide.

In doing this, we are going to have to come up with,

Cabinets (obviously)

Countertop

Backsplash

Moving the sink I hate plumbing. But it shouldn't be too bad, the plumbing is in an unfinished portion of the basement

Flooring which I'm pretty comfortable with.

Most of the work will be hired, partially because I'm a noob. Partially because I'm busy as ****.

TIA

EDIT: Already have the antifreeze tap on order.

2 cents worth. After pricing the different countertops and finding out the maintenance required for each, we decided on a tile counter. I have attached a pic of how it came out. Used the same tiles and side trim for the backsplash. Best part is it handles heat and won't scratch. It cost about a third of what any other counter type would have.

I suggest taking some of the stone and cutting it to fit the outlets instead of white glaring out.

Also, what are you looking at for handles?

I like the little trim pieces along the edge.

Make sure you seal the grout at least once a year. Looks good.

I just used white covers for the outlets and switched. Have not picked pulls or handles yet. Sealed the grout after installing and have not had any problems.

trim was originally a full tile with the mesh backing. For the side caps just used a row at a time and for the backslash, 2 rows.

Word of advice: don't get pissed off at something and slam a piece of metal cookware down on it really hard. Not that I speak from experience.

I'm a fan of counter over sink, instead of sink over counter..don't know the benefits of one over the other..I just like the look of it better

Not typically, my suggestion is to try out an island and measure the height. Bending over a countertop (with our backs) is an issue. If she does the cooking then the island should be her height.

Finally was able to get over there and grab some pics. Their stuff is still in there, so it is a little mucked up, but you get the jist.

There is 72 inches from the end of the bar to the window, so that's what I have to work with.

Here is a panoramic (that's why it's blurry and shitty) I took looking out from the kitchen.

Whatever I do I have to match up with the rest of the house.
