Initial best and worst drafts across the league

Who had good drafts and who had poor drafts?

I've gott say the Jets draft was poor. After Adams it was blah for me. Of course Ballard had a terrific draft in Indy. It sucks that Indy is in great hands.

Thoughts?

Bears were stupid

Lions were a disaster after round one

I like the RB the Saints picked but they didn't need him and ignored their awful defense

I liked Cleveland's picks but they will all bust

49ers for a ton of good players. Looks like they are planning in a qb next year

Denver had an awful draft. Faid and Eggo were solid.

Also, you missed my point, they have 4 picks in the first two rounds next year. They will have the ammo to move up if necessary. Besides, let's not pretend that the Browns are in ANY danger of winning too many games.
This is the same strategy the Browns have used for 20 years and it's lead to awful after awful QB with no QB in that mix that was even remotely good. They drafted Brady Quinn, Manziel, Weeden in the late first. Colt McCoy in the second. Charlie Frye in the very early 3rd. It's the same dumb idea that led them to punt on Carson Wentz in 2016.

I'm not missing any point. The Browns have followed this strategy for 20 years to disastrously bad results. And they sat on 2 top 15 picks with a shitload of trade ammo and they didn't even try to bring in a QB. The Browns think they can build a foundation and wait 3 years for a QB to fall into their lap. That is one hell of a gamble because none of what they're building right now matters if they don't have a QB. They've had 5 first round picks the last 2 years and used none on a QB.

Young QB's don't typically succeed with a bottom 5 roster around them. Being patient and continuing to stack up on draft capital is a good idea. Next year they will have a shot at guys like Darnold, Allen, Rosen, and Browning. I'm not saying they don't need to take a QB early next year, I'm saying they didn't have to do it this year or last because their roster was the worst in the NFL and that needed to be improved to support a young QB first.

The real lesson to be learned from all of those other QB's is that just taking a QB isn't going to solve their problems. They need to actually hit on one. Having a talented roster to support them with will help them do that.

If you've followed the Browns' history long enough, you'd know that they've built some good teams sabotaged by a terrible QB. Their QB history has been a drain on that team for 20 years.

You can't wait for the perfect QB situation to fall into your lap. That's dumb luck. Huge gamble to put all your eggs in the 2018 basket. There's no guarantee the Browns will even be in the top 5 next year, let alone #1. Lots of bright QB prospects fizzled out their senior year. Hell, Kizer was a top 5 pick in many circles this time last year. Other times, your QB is just out of reach. Like when the Chiefs were barely good enough to miss out on Matt Ryan. I could see Brock Osweiler playing just well enough to get the Browns out of play for the best QBs. It's the Brownsiest thing they can do. The reason everyone here loves the Mahomes trade is it's the ballsy QB move KC had resisted for years.

They've already screwed up once by passing on Wentz. If they passed on a good QB in 2017, that'll be strike 2. They will likely be in desperation mode in 2018 and they better hope some dumb luck falls their way. Because it's the Browns, it probably won't and they'll settle for a QB they're not in love with.

I like the Butthead tight end Denver got. Forrest Gump in the first round has disaster written all over it

The Browns will at least have a top 10 pick and like I've already said they will have another first and two seconds for ammo to trade up. There are no concerns there.

Also, are you saying they shouldn't have taken Garrett? Because by the time pick #12 came there were already two gone. There are rumors that they liked Mahomes at 12 so who knows if they would've taken him. They let the draft come to them and came out with a really good haul and 4 more picks in the first two rounds next year to work with. They're doing a solid job so far. Going with Kizer and a QB in 2018 would be a great plan considering how things played out.

One more thing, let's not pretend that Wentz is already a SB winning future HOF QB. I liked him and thought they should've taken him myself, but he's done nothing to prove that they made a huge mistake that they will regret for the next 10 years.

Garrett was a good pick.

Trading out of Wentz last year was terrible. He doesn't have to be a HOFer. Alex Smith aien't going to the Super Bowl or HOF. But he was great for bringing a winning culture back to KC. Cleveland desperately needs that.

The Browns have good chips in place for next year. But it's a huge gamble. They HAVE to get it right next year or else the rebuild was a complete bust. We've seen this movie play out way too many times. Kizer is the same pick the Browns have made for 20 years to disastrous results.

If I was the Browns, I would have drafted Watson and then drafted a top 10 QB again in 2018 if they don't like what they saw. That's acknowledging that they already made a mistake once with Wentz. No, I would not have an issue using 2 top 10 picks on a QB. The Browns could easily recover a good draft pick if they wanted to trade Watson after a year.

I'm bumping this to see how close initial views of the draft have been to first season performance. Who looks like a bust and who is a surprise. Obviously, Kareem Hunt was one of the biggest surprises in the league this year. Who else? For the Donks, I think that Bolles has been a little better than some of us expected, but not quite what KnowShit expected either.
