Where am I in this picture? A game for the bored.

Late last year I went on one of my walkabouts, traveling around for a month. You probably didn't notice because I pretty much just posted the whole time. But I really did travel around, and just now got around to organizing the photos.

So here's the drill. I'll post a picture of my trip in the order of travel, and you can guess where I am in the picture. First person to get it right gets 1 point and I'll track the points. I'll post one picture and then if no one guesses correctly in a reasonable time I'll post another picture. If I run out of pictures I'll just name the place and move on.

In many pictures I'll help you by pointing toward the subject of the picture.

You must guess the city to be eligible for points. You cannot make two simultaneous or consecutive guesses. You must let someone else guess before you make a second guess.

For those of you following at home, the total trip was around 8,300 miles in 30 days, consisting of

4,500 miles by train
3,700 miles by ship
100 miles by rental car. DC to Annapolis, and a short rental car jaunt in Montreal to get to a race
30 miles by bus. I took a bus from Buffalo to Niagara Falls, NY
10 miles of walking (plus two half-marathons). I walked off the ship to a hotel in Florida, and I walked from Niagara Falls across the border into Canada.

That's really neat. Did you have everything planned out or did you just wing it?

I planned it out partly because I built it around a particular ship departure from Quebec and a couple of half-marathons, but mostly because I have to plan. Other than the ship thing, it would have been a good winging type of trip, though.

It was kind of different to have a trip that wasn't focused on a particular destination, though. I think I was moving on 25 of the 30 days, but it was all really easy travel on the trains and ship. I'd do it again.

It's a hard choice. I enjoyed Boston and of course Washington DC for the history and museums, but I kind of knew what to expect there.

Quebec City was a surprise and gorgeous. It was like going back to the 1700s, and being French it was a fun place to visit. But Fredericksburg may be my winner. It was a beautiful small town with an astounding amount of history. I learned all sorts of stuff about James Monroe and about the Battle of Fredericksburg. It really whetted my appetite to go do a longer tour of the area.

I almost went to Philadelphia, but peeled off to Annapolis instead. There were races in both cities on the same day so I had to make a call. I think Philadelphia is the largest American city I've never visited.

It's a 4 hour drive for me. I'm closer to Pittsburgh. Missing out on some great things in Philly though.
