I think this is what getting older does. 2009 feels like last week to me sometimes. Time is going by scary fast.

At least you don't suffer from memory loss like some posters here must. So, you've got that going for you.

One thing you have to credit the new regime for is they at least built to the personnel. Piolis success would have looked much different if he wasn't so stubborn about building his version of a 3-4. Whereas pioli took an ascending team and wasted away three years, Dorsey inherited a team with a shrinking window and a really average cap situation (I realize he added cap problems of his own but different from pioli who was pretty much given a perfect cap situation). Pioli inherited a perfect situation and screwed it up. So I think we need to be really careful when we say a rebuild approach never worked for the Chiefs. I really think it was on its way toward working if pioli never got involved.

To this day I still wonder what this team would have looked like with three more years of Kuharich. Not Herm, Kuharich.

It's just unknowable right now either way.

Results up to this point, don't look promising, acknowledging that it's too early to determine

@LRiddickESPN: Not the "same ole 'skins" as far as their approach to paying for/acquiring vets. Would be very very shocked if they are high offer on DJ.

what makes you think we aren't?

Last year was a 'stop the bleeding' year. Bring in some quick fixes for PR and to bring immediate results for the fans. Now we are moving on to the build slowly through the draft and to replace the vets.

unless we are exceedingly good at drafting our current crop of quality vets won't still be playing at a high level by the time all these draft picks become impact guys.

looks like a rebuild to me

Yes, but we also have an outside shot of being competitive as we rebuild and with a smart 2014 and 2015 opportunity to be very good. So it doesn't necessarily have to be slow. But it does depend on drafting a hell of a lot better than we ever have.

Chances are the 2015 Chiefs are missing Hali and Flowers. Who currently on the roster replaces them, because that's what has to happen for this team to be "competitive" in the next season regardless of who gets drafted next month.

So, its a good plan IF the Chiefs are able to do something they have never been able to do throughout the entire history of the franchise....

Whats wrong with that picture ???

I think I understand the disconnect for the fans that say things like they'll never draft a QB high...because they're the Chiefs. They only want to go 8-8...because they're the Chiefs. Its this mystical feeling of being cursed or jinxed. Of course things won't work out, we're the Chiefs.

Its dumb, and based on nothing concrete. It reminds me of the same feeling MU fans seem to have. That nothing will work out because who we are.

Its superstition based doubt.

There are people that believe we haven't won a playoff game since 1993 because we do the same things every year which couldn't be farther from the truth.

We have lost games with the #1 defense, we have lost games with the #1 offense. We have lost games with mediocre offense and defense. We have had teams built from the draft and we have had FA loaded teams.

We scored a ton of points in our loss to Colts in January but we lost that game because we didn't draft a QB in 2006.
